Only four teams are left in the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs, and on Saturday they'll battle it out to earn a spot in MLS Cup on Saturday, December 7. Orlando City SC and NY Red Bulls are the last teams standing in the East, with Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders fighting for the Western Conference crown. Here at GIVEMESPORT, we're previewing each match and making our predictions. Orlando City SC vs New York Red Bulls Date: Saturday, November 30, 7:30 pm ET TV: MLS Season Pass on Apple TV Location: Inter&Co Stadium, Orlando, FL Odds: ORL (-125), Draw (+270), RBNY (+300) Last meeting: RBNY 1-0 ORL (Jun 1, 2024 - MLS Regular Season) Orlando City SC are playing in their first Conference Final since debuting as a club in 2015. The Lions knocked out Atlanta United in a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the Conference Semifinals, getting a first-half winner from in-form striker Ramiro Enrique off of an early set piece. Under head coach Óscar Pareja , Orlando are incredibly difficult to play against. They averaged the sixth-most tackles in the attacking third this season, pressing high and looking to close space and limit their opponent's ability to play the ball out from the back. With Enrique winning the starting No. 9 job, he leads a front-line that also includes Iván Angulo , Martín Ojeda and the always dangerous Facundo Torres . Behind them, the midfield pairing of Wilder Cartagena and César Araujo aren't the most creative duo, but they're incredibly hard-working and combative, setting the tone for how Orlando approach the game. Most importantly, goalkeeper Pedro Gallese has hit his stride in the postseason. The Peru Football international has allowed just one goal all postseason, and while he's benefited from a lock-down defense in front of him, he's stepped up when called on. On the other side, NY Red Bulls have hit their stride in the postseaso n. After sweeping the Columbus Crew SC in Round One, the Red Bulls dispatched New York City FC on the road in their conference semifinal match-up, with goals from Felipe Carballo and Dante Vanzier giving them an early and ultimately unassailable lead. As typical for a Red Bulls team, they base their game model around a high press with heavy emphasis on winning second balls and tackles in the attacking half, leading to plenty of turnovers close to goal. It's worked for them against two of the more possession-based teams in the MLS Eastern Conference , but Orlando pose a very different challenge. With both sides better against the ball than with it, it's hard to pick out a clear protagonist heading into things. Both Orlando and New York are more than capable of winning battles in midfield, but the Red Bulls have the edge when it comes to turning won tackles into ball progression. It looks like being a tight (and possibly ugly) match, but the Red Bulls have already beaten better opponents this postseason. Prediction: Orlando City SC 1-2 NY Red Bulls LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders Date: Saturday, November 30, 10:00 pm ET TV: MLS Season Pass on Apple TV Location: Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, CA Odds: LA (-115), Draw (+270), SEA (+270) Last meeting: SEA 3-1 LA (Aug 8, 2024 - Leagues Cup Round of 32) The classic battle of an unstoppable force versus an immovable object, the MLS Western Conference final promises to be one of the best matches of these playoffs. Los Angeles Galaxy have been nothing short of dominant in the postseason. The swept the Colorado Rapids in Round One by an aggregate 9-1 scoreline and breezed past Minnesota United in the conference semifinals in a 6-2 route. Riqui Puig had a reasonable case to be the best player in MLS during the regular season, and he has upped the ante in the playoffs with a total of four goals and two assists. The entire team revolves around the FC Barcelona academy product, with Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec consistently making daring runs into space, knowing that Puig has the ability to find them. While their defense has been called into question all season, they've allowed just three goals and 0.87 expected goals per match, the second-lowest of any playoff team per American Soccer Analysis . ( Orlando City SC lead all playoff teams with 0.81 per match). Their ability to absolutely dominate teams in the final third, build out from the back, and simply outscore opponents no matter the scenario, make them the heavy favorites to lift MLS Cup at this point. Seattle Sounders weren't a trendy pick to make it this far, but they've absolutely earned their place with wins over Houston Dynamo and a heavily-favored Los Angeles FC side. Their defense has been the story of their 2024 campaign, allowing just 35 goals in the regular season, and a league-best 1.20 expected goals per game in the regular season and playoffs, per ASA. Stefan Frei has rediscovered his best form, impressing against LAFC behind an absolutely dominant defense. Yeimar Gómez and Jackson Ragen have developed into one of MLS's premier center-back duos, but Yeimar is a doubt for Saturday's match after coming off injured against LAFC. Nouhou Tolo and Reed Baker-Whiting are also battling injuries and illness, potentially depriving head coach Brian Schmetzer of three of his more important players. As good as Seattle's defense is, it's hard to see them keeping Puig & Co. quiet for a full 90 minutes. And while Jordan Morris has excelled as a No. 9 this season, the Sounders don't have the firepower to hang with the Galaxy in a shootout, at least on paper. The Sounders will go into the match looking to keep things tight and compact for as long as possible, but if Los Angeles can find an early goal, the game will inevitably blow wide open. Prediction: Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1 Seattle Sounders RELATED MLS Roster Decisions: Updated News and Analysis for All 29 TeamsWorld's tallest and shortest women meet for afternoon tea

McDermott, AFC East-leading Bills refreshed coming out of bye week, and looking ahead to host 49ers ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. John Wawrow, The Associated Press Nov 27, 2024 2:29 PM Nov 27, 2024 2:35 PM Share by Email Share on Facebook Share on X Share on LinkedIn Print Share via Text Message Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott speaks during a news conference following an NFL football game against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, in Orchard Park, N.Y. The Bills won 30-21. (AP Photo/Julia Demaree Nikhinson) ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Gratifying as it was for Sean McDermott to catch up with his family and get some rest during Buffalo’s bye week, the Bills coach on Wednesday found comfort returning to his weekly routine and familiar wardrobe — a gray T-shirt and sweatpants. “When I’m not wearing those, I go to my closet and I don’t know what to wear. I’m kind of like not myself,” he said before pulling up his hoodie for emphasis to reveal the gray shirt he had on underneath. “So I was telling some of the guys this morning, ‘It’s good to be back.’” Though there remain challenges ahead, these are upbeat times in Buffalo . The Bills (9-2) are off to their best start since 1992. They remain in contention for the AFC’s top seed by entering their break following a 30-21 win over Kansas City (10-1). And Buffalo is in position to clinch its fifth straight AFC East title as early as Sunday. To do so, the Bills would need Miami to lose to Green Bay on Thursday night, and Buffalo to win its game over San Francisco (5-6) on Sunday night. Buffalo has won six straight since back-to-back losses at Baltimore and Houston, and scored 30 or more points in each of its past five outings. Refreshed as McDermott sounded and appeared, it didn’t take long for him to revert to his game-at-a-time script when assessing what’s on the line this weekend. “We’re mostly focused on our level of play this week against a good football team,” he said. McDermott shed little light on the status of Buffalo’s lengthy list of injured players. There’s no timetable yet on Matt Milano being activated off injured reserve, even though the starting linebacker practiced fully for the first time since tearing his left biceps during a training camp practice in mid-August. Milano has actually missed nearly 14 months since sustaining a season-ending injury to his right leg in Week 5 last season. Milano revealed little during a brief interview following practice. “I feel all right. Getting back into it with the team,” said Milano, who no longer wore a red non-contact jersey in practice. Meantime, rookie receiver Keon Coleman, who has missed two games with a right wrist injury, and starting right tackle Spencer Brown, who missed one game with an ankle injury, were limited in practice. Tight end Dalton Kincaid (knee) was Buffalo's only player not practicing. The Bills also opened the three-week window for backup rookie defensive tackle DeWayne Carter (wrist) and backup offensive lineman Tylan Grable (groin) to return. McDermott has another positive going for him revolving around the bye week. The Bills are 8-0 coming out of their break since McDermott took over as coach in 2017. “I don’t really have the, hey, this is exactly what we do formula,” McDermott said on whether he’s changed his bye week approach. “It’s more of us really just getting back to what we do, getting back to basics.” ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl John Wawrow, The Associated Press See a typo/mistake? ANGE Postecoglou savaged Timo Werner in the aftermath of Spurs’ disappointing draw with Rangers in the Europa League at Ibrox tonight and warned he needs more from his senior players. Posteocoglou substituted the experienced German internationalist at the start of the second and put on Dejan Kulusevski after a flat first half performance from the English club. Swedish internationalist Kulusevski netted an equaliser with 15 minutes of regulation time to earn the visitors a draw in the league phase match. However, the former Celtic manager, who has a raft of key personnel missing through suspension and injury, was still deeply unhappy with how Werner performed after the full-time whistle. “We weren't anywhere near our best, that's fair to say,” he said. “But at the same time we're in a period of games where we're grinding through at the moment. “Obviously we're a fairly depleted squad and there are some players who need to stand up week in, week out. In the context of that, like I said, in the end I think it was a good outcome for us.” Asked why he substituted Werner, he said: “He wasn't playing anywhere near the level he should. “When you've got 18-year-olds, it's not acceptable to me. I said that to Timo. He's a senior international, he's a German international. It's not like we've got many options. “I need everyone to at least be going out there, trying to give the best of themselves. His performance in the first half wasn't acceptable.” Asked how the RB Leipzig loanee and former Chelsea man had responded to his words, Postecoglou said: “I don't really know and it's not really of great concern. “Like I said, we just need everybody, including him, to be contributing because we don't have the depth to leave people out if they're performing poorly. We need them to play their part. “Like I said, especially the senior guys, when I'm asking younger guys to do massive jobs, I expect a level of performance from some of the senior guys and today wasn't that.” Postecoglou was pleased with how youngster Archie Gray, the son of former Scotland internationalist Andy, performed at centre half in the 1-1 draw with Rangers in Govan. “He's 18 and it’s a big experience for him,” he said. “I thought he handled himself really well. We're asking him to do something, to play in an unfamiliar position in such big games, as an 18-year-old in his first year at this level. “I think it's outstanding what he's doing. And I thought Lucas [Bergvall] was excellent when he came on as well. He was due to start tonight but he wasn't feeling well today, he was a bit under the weather so we had to keep him on the bench. “But that's a massive positive for us. I think those two, as 18-year-olds, who are already contributing and experiencing these things, will be of enormous benefit to us.”
The Ken-Betwa rivers linking project, estimated to cost upwards of Rs 44,000 crores (around $5 billion), will be the first to be undertaken under India’s national river interlinking policy under the National River Linking Project (NRLP). It is intended to address water scarcity and irrigation needs, and generate hydropower in the drought-prone Bundelkhand region that spans Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Getting such a project off the ground is an enormous achievement, and this may have been facilitated by the fact that the states giving and receiving water are ruled by the national ruling party BJP. Considering the animosities in water sharing even among states ruled by allies, the initiative is to be proud of, though the politics surrounding issues big and small today did bring out some more of the prevailing animosities as the foundation stone for the project was laid. The river linking project has been a national dream of decades and the first person to put it down in writing was an Englishman, Sir Arthur Cotton, irrigation engineer of the East India Company, in 1858. Since then, river linking has had many votaries, including the main architect of the Constitution B.R. Ambedkar and former Prime Minister Vajpayee, generous praise for whom came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several jabs at the Opposition party, the Congress. Principally, river linking can address the problem of flooding and droughts that occur in different parts of the country, and which may be solved to an extent by interlinking and sharing of water that could otherwise go out to sea. The perennial Indo-Gangetic rivers can feed the peninsular rivers which are mostly seasonal and the ambitious project can see equitable sharing of a resource that will get only more precious with population growth. The flip side, however, is as long as the list of benefits because big dams can impact ecosystems, need clearing and flooding of forests and invite deleterious effects on biodiversity and wildlife, besides displacement of a vast number of people that can lead to social and economic distress. The Congress points to a direct effect of the Ken-Betwa project to the Panna tiger reserve, which the Prime Minister rebuts with the assurance that the well-being of tigers will be kept in mind while routing the canals. On a more national level, inter-state as well as international disputes may arise, particularly with the Himalayan rivers, as has been the experience with China that has built mega dams to prove its engineering skills and yet controls water flow to such an extent that countries downstream are starved of water, with its 11 dams across the Mekong River. What an achievement it would be if India were to connect 14 Himalayan and 16 peninsular rivers with 30 canals and 3,000 reservoirs, never mind if the estimated cost is in the range of $200 billion now and expected to rise exponentially with time. Water distribution is, however, not new to India as irrigation canals have served their purpose well for long. Also, today, water of the Godavari does reach the Krishna and Chennai even gets its drinking water from the Krishna in a canal. The point is the consequences, intended and otherwise, are not yet fully projected or understood and the challenge of national river linking with upstream dams will remain, more so in an open and democratic society like India’s. Given the pace of decision making on such projects, the challenges may lie in the far future. But what the first project in the Ken-Betwa linking represents is that there is a way to attempt such equitable water sharing in the country, provided it comes without totally damaging river systems and inviting environmental mayhem.Dunxin Financial Holdings Limited Announces Planned ADS Ratio ChangeSt. Petersburg council approves $23M repair to hurricane-ravaged Tropicana Field roof
Fireworks Explosion Shakes Mexican FestivitiesScottish artist Jasleen Kaur has won the Turner Prize for her solo exhibition Alter Altar, which includes an installation of a car with a giant doily on it. Happy Valley actor James Norton announced the winner in a ceremony held at Tate Britain on Tuesday evening. The five jury members chose Kaur for “her ability to gather different voices through unexpected and playful combinations of material, from Irn-Bru to family photographs and a vintage Ford Escort, locating moments of resilience and possibility”. Kaur, who was born in Glasgow but lives and works in London, used her speech to advocate for the people in Palestine. The 38-year-old said she wanted to “echo the calls of the protesters outside” who had gathered after an open letter urged the Tate to cut ties with “organisations complicit in what the UN and ICJ are finally getting closer to saying is a genocide of the Palestinian people”. “This is not a radical demand,” Kaur said on stage. “This should not risk an artist’s career or safety. We’re trying to build consensus that the ties to these organisations are unethical, just as artists did with Sackler,” she said, referencing the family linked to the opioid epidemic. “I’ve been wondering why artists are required to dream up liberation in the gallery but when that dream meets life we are shut down. “I want the separation between the expression of politics in the gallery and the practice of politics in life to disappear. “I want the institution to understand that if you want us inside, you need to listen to us outside.” Kaur concluded her speech by calling for a ceasefire, adding: “Free Palestine.” BBC reporter Katie Razzall had to apologise to viewers after Kaur used a swear word in her speech. The artist was nominated for an exhibition that was held at the Tramway in her home city last year. The display, a series of installations exploring religious identities, politics and history, makes heavy use of different sounds, embedded into the exhibition by way of worship bells, Sufi Islamic devotional music, Indian harmonium, and pop tracks. This year the arts prize, named after British painter JMW Turner, which awards £25,000 to its winner, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Established in 1984, the prize is awarded each year to a British artist for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work. Previous recipients include sculptor Sir Anish Kapoor (1991), artist Damien Hirst (1995), and filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen (1999). In 2025, the prize will be presented in Bradford at Cartwright Hall art gallery, marking the 250th anniversary of Turner’s birth. The exhibition of the four shortlisted artists – Pio Abad, Claudette Johnson, Delaine Le Bas, and Kaur – is at Tate Britain until February 16 2025.Brighten your holiday season: 2024 guide to spectacular light events across Minnesota

Chelsea’s surprise defeat at home to Fulham earlier in the day had been an unexpected gift for Arne Slot’s side and they drove home their advantage by outclassing the struggling Foxes. Having overcome the early setback of conceding to Jordan Ayew, with even the travelling fans expressing their surprise they were winning away after taking just five points on the road this season, the home team had too much quality. That was personified by the excellent Cody Gakpo, whose eighth goal in his last 14 appearances produced the equaliser in first-half added time with the Netherlands international unlucky to have a second ruled out for offside by VAR. Further goals from Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah, with his 19th of the season, stretched Liverpool’s unbeaten run to 22 matches. For Leicester, who had slipped into the bottom three after Wolves’ win over Manchester United, it is now one win from the last 10 in the league and Ruud van Nistelrooy has plenty of work to do, although he was not helped here by the absence of leading scorer Jamie Vardy through injury. It looked liked Liverpool meant business from the off with Salah’s volley from Gakpo’s far-post cross just being kept out by Jakub Stolarczyk, making his league debut after former Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward was omitted from the squad having struggled in the defeat to Wolves. But if the hosts thought that had set the tone they were badly mistaken after being opened up with such simplicity in only the sixth minute. Stephy Mavididi broke down the left and his low cross picked out Ayew, who turned Andy Robertson far too easily, with his shot deflecting off Virgil van Dijk to take it just out of Alisson Becker’s reach. With a surprise lead to cling to Leicester knew they had to quell the storm heading their way and they began by trying to take as much time out of the game as they could, much to Anfield’s frustration. It took a further 18 minutes for Liverpool to threaten with Gakpo cutting in from the left to fire over, a precursor for what was to follow just before half-time. That was the prompt for the attacks to rain down on the Foxes goal, with Salah’s shot looping up off Victor Kristiansen and landing on the roof of the net and Robertson heading against a post. Gakpo’s inclination to come in off the left was proving a problem for the visitors, doing their utmost to resist the pressure, but when Salah curled a shot onto the crossbar on the stroke of half-time it appeared they had survived. However, Gakpo once again drifted in off the flank to collect an Alexis Mac Allister pass before curling what is fast becoming his trademark effort over Stolarczyk and inside the far post. Early the second half Darwin Nunez fired over Ryan Gravenberch’s cross before Jones side-footed home Mac Allister’s cross after an intricate passing move inside the penalty area involving Nunez, Salah and the Argentina international. Leicester’s ambition remained limited but Patson Daka should have done better from a two-on-one counter attack with Mavididi but completely missed his kick with the goal looming. 🎯 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) Nunez forced a save out of the goalkeeper before Gakpo blasted home what he thought was his second only for VAR to rule Nunez was offside in the build-up. But Liverpool’s third was eventually delivered by the left foot of Salah, who curled the ball outside Kristiansen, inside Jannick Vestergaard and past Stolarczyk inside the far post.
