For 17 years, Hariss Harun has served Singapore football with distinction. He was part of the Lions’ Asean Championship-winning side in 2012, before becoming captain of Johor Darul Takzim, with whom he won the 2015 AFC Cup, adding to his multiple domestic trophies on both sides of the Causeway. He has kept things tidy in midfield, put in crunching tackles and ventured forward to link up with the attack when required. Even when he is played out of position in defence, he carries on with his task with minimal fuss. As years go by, his professionalism and commitment remain unquestionable, but as he doubles in age to 34, he has also lost a yard of pace while recovery takes longer. He is no longer an automatic starter with the Lions and Lion City Sailors. The national skipper remained true to his down-to-earth demeanour when asked if he has been hit by recent criticism, following his blunder which led to a goal in the 3-2 friendly defeat by Chinese Taipei in November. Ahead of Singapore’s Asean Championship Group A opener against Cambodia on Dec 11 at the National Stadium, Hariss told The Straits Times: “What I have achieved doesn’t give me the leeway to give anything less. At times, it has come back to bite me and I don’t perform as I should, and I take responsibility for the decision I made. “The criticism hurts the people closest to me, which is what affects me. This is my job hazard, but it’s what I signed up for. Footballers are more in the public eye now, and we have to learn to deal with it. The good thing is we have the opportunity to prove ourselves, and hopefully we will do that.” The Lions, who have been struggling to make progress in recent years, will be looking to hit the ground running as they take on a Cambodia side boosted by seven naturalised players and held Malaysia to a 2-2 draw in Phnom Penh on Dec 8 to end a run of nine straight defeats by the Tigers. Five of Cambodia’s naturalised players – South Africa-born defender Kan Mo, Japan-born midfielder and set-piece specialist Yudai Ogawa and defender Takaki Ose, United States-born winger Nick Taylor, and Ivory Coast-born scorer Abdel Kader Coulibaly – started and impressed with their ability on the ball. They also have Japan-born defender Hikaru Mizuno and Colombia-born forward Andres Nieto to call upon. Mo, formerly known as Faeez Khan, had played in the Cambodian league for five years before he switched nationality in 2024. The 32-year-old said: “We help to push the local players more so we can become stronger as a unit. “We had six days to prepare for this tournament, so it’s a challenge. We know each other from the league... but tactically, it’s a bit difficult coming together. We need more time to perfect our playing style, but at the moment, if our fighting spirit is there, we will be okay.” Meanwhile, Singapore will have a different coach at the helm for a seventh straight Asean Championship. Since winning the 2012 edition, they have made it past the group stage just once, in 2021 when they were beaten by Indonesia in the two-legged semi-finals. Tsutomu Ogura is the latest man to attempt to turn the Lions’ fortunes around, and has injected some positivity that led to come-from-behind results against China (2-2) and Myanmar (3-2). These have been tempered, however, by a 7-0 drubbing by South Korea and a 3-2 defeat by Chinese Taipei. While the likes of goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud, defender Safuwan Baharudin and striker Shawal Anuar will be key to his plans, there will be opportunities for younger players to establish themselves, with notable absences in Song Ui-young (family matters), Jacob Mahler (injury) and Irfan, Ikhsan and Ilhan Fandi (not released by foreign clubs). The 58-year-old Japanese, who has experimented with his line-ups and given opportunities to youngsters such as Jordan Emaviwe, Farhan Zulkifli and Abdul Rasaq Akeem, said he will pick his starting XI only on match-day mornings. He said: “I don’t just look at what happens on the pitch. With what feels like an endless loop of information coming from all angles at all times, it can be hard to discern what beauty advice you should actually take seriously. One of the industries most affected by this is skin care. At any given moment you can find someone spewing misinformation about sunscreens , an aesthetician revealing a new treatment that you have to try, and a board-certified dermatologist explaining why you shouldn't be using a product that one second ago you swore by. All this is to say: it can be confusing to know who to go to for what when it comes to preserving your skin health — especially in the era of TikTok fame and social media virality. So if you too have often wondered what the difference is between skin-care professionals (especially as it pertains to dermatologists and aestheticians), we asked them for you. As it turns out, the main difference is that dermatologists can perform a host of invasive to non-invasive procedures, while aestheticians are more limited to surface-level enhancements. "Aestheticians can cosmetically enhance the appearance of the epidermis, or outermost layer of the skin, within the scope of practice outlined by their state," aesthetician Ashley White says. "Dermatologists are medical professionals that can legally diagnose abnormalities and prescribe medication to treat specific conditions." To better understand the difference between a dermatologist versus an aesthetician, including which instances you should see one over the other, keep reading. Ashley White is an aesthetician based in Chicago. Tracy Evans MD, MPH , is a board-certified dermatologist, skin cancer specialist, fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, and the founder of Pacific Skin in San Francisco. Dermatologists vs. Aestheticians The main difference between dermatologists vs. aestheticians is the amount of training required for each field. Allow us to explain more: What Is a Dermatologist? "A dermatologist is a medical doctor who has completed four years of undergraduate school at university or college, four years of medical school, a medical internship, and three years of dermatology residency," dermatologist Tracy Evans MD, MPH, says. "They also take a national board-certified exam." What Is an Aesthetician? Aestheticians on the other hand fall under the umbrella of cosmetology. "Aestheticians complete a cosmetology degree, which is usually one year following high school or college," Dr. Evans says. "They are regulated by the states that they practice in. Some aestheticians can do procedures, such as facials, microblading, microplaning, eyelash extensions, and hair. Some states allow them to do lasers and even injectables, but most do not." When to See a Dermatologist vs. an Aesthetician Though some of the procedures that both specialties have some overlap, there are instances where you should see a dermatologist as opposed to an aesthetician. "For all true skin conditions, you need to be seeing a dermatologist," Dr. Evans says. "This includes everything from eczema, acne, rosacea, psoriasis, skin cancers , mole checks." Additionally, any cosmetic procedures that involve cutting or injecting the skin such as fillers, Botox injections , and lasers should be done by a dermatologist. White agrees, adding: "You should be seeing a dermatologist one to two times a year for skin checks, rashes, nodules, and screenings for early signs of skin cancer." She recommends seeing aestheticians for general topical maintenance, like regular facials, LED or chemical treatments, and extractions. This means you'll likely see an esthetician more often than you do a dermatologist. "Aestheticians can provide certain treatments in-clinic to enhance and/or accelerate results like a more even skin tone and little to no breakouts," White says. "Aestheticians typically provide longer time blocks with their clients so they receive extra attention and support during their skin optimization process." Which Is Better: Dermatologist vs. Aesthetician? While it may seem like you have to choose between the two, you don't. "It's actually beneficial to combine skin care and medicine," White says. "Having multiple providers allows you to maintain healthy skin instead of simply just fixing skin that has already been damaged." Simply put, aestheticians provide services that address the appearance of your skin, while a dermatologist help to address its fitness, a process that may require a bit more of an in-depth dive into your medical history, as well as those more cosmetic treatments like filler or lasers. No social media algorithm or product recommendation will ever accurately address the full picture when it comes to your specific concerns, so whether you can only choose one or are creating team of experts, do always make sure to go to a professional when trying to achieve the skin of your dreams. It said: WiseTech is a leading global provider of software solutions to the logistics services industry. An attempt to reinstate involuntary manslaughter charges against actor Alec Baldwin over the deadly shooting on the set of the movie Rust was withdrawn Monday, authorities in New Mexico said. First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies disclosed that special prosecutor Kari Morrissey ended the state’s appeal of a lower court decision to dismiss the charges against Baldwin, who was holding a prop gun on the set in October 2021 when it discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. The movie’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for Hutchins’ death. Baldwin pleaded not guilty in the case, stating he did not pull the trigger of the gun. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the case in July, ruling that prosecutors and police withheld evidence that could have helped determine the source of the live round that killed Hutchins. In a new suit filed on Monday, a plaintiff named Phillip Pines claimed he was hired as Diddy’s “personal lackey” and served at the legendary producer’s “beck and call” from 2019 through 2021. A research manager for ESPN has died after a two-year fight with colorectal cancer, the network announced Monday. New York (CNN) — Following a brief outage that grounded all American airlines flights during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, American Airlines says it has resumed service Tuesday morning. American Airlines said a “vendor technology issue” was responsible for delaying all of its flights in the United States. But the company began boarding flights again at around 8 am ET, and flights have since resumed, airline spokeswoman Sarah Jantz told CNN. The Federal Aviation Administration lifted its nationwide groundstop order for all American flights. The FAA in a statement said American requested a nationwide ground stop but it referred all questions to the airline for more information. The outage came on a day when the airline is scheduled to have more than 3,300 domestic flights, according to the aviation analytics firm Cirium. The airline resumed service with residual delays but without a substantial number of cancelations. “It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible,” the airline said. “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.” American said delayed customers should be on their way with minimal disruption. “Expect some delays throughout the day but [we’re] working to mitigate those and avoid cancels,” Jantz said. “We have a smaller schedule today and have the staffing to support the quick recovery.” Just 26 flights across all airlines were canceled nationwide, according to data tracker FlightAware.
