New Canadians, non-traditional demographics boost minor hockey uptake in B.C.LAGOS – In continuation of its consumer protection awareness programme, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is set to hold the next phase of the event in the Federal Capital Territory (F.C.T), Abuja. A statement by the agency said that the consumer awareness programme, which is aimed at sensitising air travellers on their rights, duties and responsibilities, would take place on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 9a.m in two different places simultaneously. It said that the programme would also enhance pleasant traveling experience for air passengers, by fostering increased adoption of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven digital innovation consumer right protection and dispute management portal recently launched by the authority. According to the statement, Pliance Global Aviation Limited would be facilitating the National Civil Aviation Stakeholder Awareness Summit event at the Federal Secretariat, Shehu Shagari Way, Central Business District, Abuja, while Brisk Systems Limited, a digital technology firm, would be facilitating the Consumer Protection Digital Innovation Stakeholder Awareness Programme at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. It said that the programme would involve roadshow, AI DEMO, Key Informant Interview, Random customer interviews and engagement and a town hall engagement with stakeholders. The agency maintained that the programme had become necessary to close the gap of knowledge between air travellers, airlines and aviation agencies, which in the past had led to animosities and poor consumer experience among many that travel both on domestic and international destinations. The Consumer Protection Directorate of NCAA has carried out studies and discovered that many passengers do not know their rights and obligations when buying air tickets from airlines. The statement added: “So, it is in pursuance to the renewed commitment of the executive management of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority under the leadership of Capt. Chris Najomo, towards birthing a civil aviation and air transportation industry, that will contribute maximally to economic growth and development in the country that the regulatory authority has decided to close this gap through the forthcoming summit. “One of the objectives of the summit is to regain travellers’ confidence through the enforcement of consumers right, build a more informed customers and air travel community base, entrench service excellence culture across the civil aviation value chain in the country.” The stated said that the NCAA, through a consortium of consultants had set up series of well-structured, logically aligned and strategically situated programme of events to drive the re-birthing, re-branding and re-engineering initiatives. Fundamentally, the series of stakeholder engagement and public awareness programme was aimed at setting the roadmap for achieving a more efficient civil aviation and air transportation system in the country. This it said would only be possible through an inclusive dialogue by critical stakeholders and major actors in the Nigerian civil aviation air transportation value chain.Sen. Trump received a 34-count guilty verdict in the criminal hush money case in May, in a case over his payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of his 2016 presidential victory. He is the first former president to be convicted of felony crimes, though he’s not been sentenced. President Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter earlier this month after he was found guilty of illegally owning a gun and pleaded guilty to not paying his taxes on time. Moreover, Biden’s pardon was cited by Trump’s attorneys when arguing that Trump’s convictions in the hush money case should be dropped. Prosecutors have maintained that the convictions should stand. New Delhi: India and Kuwait elevated their ties to a ‘Strategic Partnership’ Sunday, along with a memorandum of understanding in defence, as well as agreements in culture and sports during the two-day visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Gulf country also joined the India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA) as a member. “This MoU [on defence cooperation] will institutionalise bilateral cooperation in the area of defence. Key areas of cooperation would include training, exchange of personnel and experts, joint exercises, cooperation in defence industry, supply of defence equipment and collaboration in research and development,” said Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Consular and Diaspora) in the Ministry of Exchange Affairs (MEA) during a special media briefing. The agreement in defence cooperation was in the works for a while, before being signed during Modi’s visit to the West Asian country. The two-day visit by Modi is the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Kuwait in 43 years. The PM met with the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Sunday morning. Subsequently, he held a meeting with Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah followed by delegation- level talks with his Kuwait counterpart Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. During the meeting with the Amir, Modi was conferred with the Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer, the highest national award of Kuwait. This is the Indian PM’s 20th foreign award. The Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer instituted in 1974 has since been conferred on select global leaders including the late Queen Elizabeth II to name a few. The Amir of Kuwait “expressed” his appreciation for “India’s role as a valued partner in Kuwait and the Gulf Region.” The two prime ministers discussed a “roadmap to strengthen the strategic partnership” in areas such as trade, political, investments, energy, defence, security, health, education, technology, culture and education, according to Chatterjee. India is one of Kuwait’s largest trading partners, with bilateral trade in goods touching $10.47 billion in 2023-24. Kuwait is India’s sixth largest exporter of crude petroleum, accounting for 3 percent of its energy needs. According to the MEA, there is also around $10 billion worth of investments by Kuwait in the Indian economy. Modi invited the Kuwaiti Investment Authority to visit India to look at opportunities in investing in areas such as defence, energy, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, food parks among other sectors. The two countries have had historic ties, with the Indian rupee being the legal tender in the country till 1961. However, since the 1990-1991 Gulf War, ties had hit a rough patch over India’s support for Saddam Hussein and Iraq. Over the last three decades, ties have slowly strengthened. Kuwait is the last country within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Modi to visit, having visited Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the UAE earlier during his tenure. Kuwait is the current chair of the GCC. On ties between India and the GCC, Chatterjee said, “In general the two sides discussed cooperation between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council, for which Kuwait is now the chair...We look forward to very intense cooperation between India and the GCC, through Kuwait’s chairmanship.” As a part of the two-day visit, Modi also visited a labour camp in Mina Abdullah Saturday and interacted with the roughly 1,500 Indian workforce living in the camp. There are around one million Indians living in Kuwait, making up 21 percent of the nation’s population and 30 percent of its workforce. Modi thanked the Amir of Kuwait for “looking after” the Indian community during their bilateral meeting. Earlier in June, a fire in living quarters of labourers in the Mangaf area, left at least 41 Indians dead. The prime minister addressed an event Saturday evening with the Indian community living in Kuwait and was the guest of honour for the inaugural match of the Arabian Gulf Cup. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that the demographic data of people along the India-Myanmar border, especially in Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur, should be mapped so that it can help in fencing of the border and infiltration can be stopped. The Home Minister, who chaired the 12th meeting of the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) Society in Agartala, said that there is a need to conduct a comprehensive survey in the border areas. Four northeastern states - Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Manipur (398 km), Nagaland (215 km) and Mizoram (510 km) - share 1,643-km unfenced border with Myanmar. The Ministry of Home Affairs has planned to fence the entire 1,643 km porous India-Myanmar border, known for the smuggling of arms, ammunition and narcotics, at a cost of Rs 31,000 crore. Mr Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's space sector has taken a giant leap forward in the last 10 years. He said that after 25 years of establishment of the NESAC Society, the positive aspects of the work being done by the society are now visible. The Union Home Minister said the NESAC Society should further expand the scope of its work in the northeastern states, and, for this, initiatives should also be taken by the state governments. Mr Shah urged the NESAC society to take 100 students each with a science background from all the states of the northeast on a visit to the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) so that they can develop interest in space and related technology. He urged the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) to contribute 60 per cent for this project. Mr Shah also requested the state governments of the northeast to start new courses related to space technology in engineering colleges. He said that so far, 20 waterways have been built with the help of NESAC and the society should explore the possibility of building more waterways. The Home Minister said there is a need for extensive mapping for mineral, oil, and coal reserves in the northeastern states. The northeastern states would be financially benefited from the royalty received for these minerals. He said the NESAC Society should focus on forest area development using space science. Similarly, the Home Minister also asked the Society to map floods in the northeastern states. Mr Shah praised the efforts of NESAC Society for proper and positive use of space technology in administration and emphasized its extensive use in the development of a difficult geographical area like the northeast in the coming times. DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, his deputy Sukanta Majumdar, chief ministers of several northeastern states, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Secretary, Department of Space Dr S Somnath and Director, Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, senior officials of the central and state governments of northeastern states were present in the meeting. The Union Home Minister is the president of the NESAC Society while the ISRO chief is the chairman of the NESAC Governing Council. Through satellite-based imageries and studies, the NESAC, situated in Meghalaya's Umiam, helped the northeastern states in planning, preparing and monitoring diverse projects ranging from agriculture to various infrastructures.
