The J. M. Smucker Company Announces Pricing for Cash Tender OffersThe interview with Dr. John Barr and Jim Patton tackles medication safety and how PillSafe Technologies secures prescriptions, prevents abuse, and protects patients and doctors, leading the fight against the opioid crisis. EDMOND, OKLAHOMA / ACCESSWIRE / December 17, 2024 / In an exclusive in-depth interview broadcast on Bloomberg, Fox Business and Nasdaq, PillSafe's founders, Dr. John Barr and Jim Patton, discussed how its smart pill delivery system targets the critical issues of patient medicine monitoring and unused prescriptions, identified as key factors driving opioid misuse. Their revolutionary, disruptive technology helps to ensure safety and prescription compliance in the fight against opioids and other addictive drugs. "It is an honor to share how PillSafe can help protect patients with our single-use and disposable containers," said Dr. Barr. "This interview allows us to go into details on how PillSafe came to be and our goal to make an impact regarding the opioid crisis and counterfeit medications." The interview with Jane King addresses the need for safety measures related to medicinal intake, covers how PillSafe can benefit patients and various organizations and highlights the significance of its impact as a preventive measure against accidental overdoses. In discussing how PillSafe differs from other pill delivery systems, Dr. Barr describes creating a bottle cap that is child- and adult-proof, the first major improvement in pill bottles since 1959's invention of the childhood cap. He then relates the unique features of the PillSafe bottle, including security against any breach. The interview explores the backgrounds of its two founders: Dr. John Barr practiced family medicine in North Carolina for over 30 years, obstetrics for eight years and worked hundreds of hours in emergency rooms. To help alleviate his patients' pain and suffering, he followed published studies that suggested the risk of addiction to opioids to be less than 1% for people without prior addiction. However, a prescription drug epidemic led to the suspension of Dr. Barr's license in 2012. He turned his attention to prescription bottles and how patients could overdose, share, sell or trade pills for illicit drugs. Dr. Barr researched and developed an idea regarding a theft deterrent system. In 2013, he teamed up with Jim Patton to create a management team and bring innovation to the market. Jim Patton served as an officer in the U.S. Army before starting a career in orthopedic sales. In 1996, Patton founded Joint Technology Inc./Revert Systems, an orthopedic conservative care company helping patients increase their activity levels and decrease their pain levels using non-narcotic and non-invasive devices. In 2013, he met Dr. Barr, who shared his concerns about the opiate epidemic. Patton's 30-plus years as a successful marketer of conservative medical devices and Dr. Barr's 30-plus years in family medicine treating chronic pain led to the creation of PillSafe. The interview also examines who can benefit from the PillSafe technology besides patients and their families. As a former military officer, Patton expresses concerns over veterans on medications with terrible side effects. Dr. Barr points out that insurance companies, pharmacies and governments are looking for solutions to the opioid and illicit drug crisis and the high cost related to medication non-compliance and claims of negligence. Other topics covered in the interview include the impact of opiate addiction on the economy and the goal of PillSafe to help organizations and governments fight the opioid crisis and counterfeit illegal drugs. The interview can be viewed here . PillSafe has a revenue share opportunity to help them fund programs and can license their innovation technology to support this important cause against drug use. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Londynn Jones scored 15 points, making all five of her 3-pointers, and fifth-ranked UCLA stunned No. 1 South Carolina 77-62 on Sunday, ending the Gamecocks’ overall 43-game winning streak and their run of 33 consecutive road victories. The Gamecocks (5-1) lost for the first time since April 2023, when Caitlin Clark and Iowa beat them in the NCAA Tournament national semifinals. Te-Hina Paopao scored 18 points and Tessa Johnson scored 14 for the Gamecocks, whose road winning streak was third-longest in Division I history. It was the first time UCLA took down a No. 1 team in school history, having been 0-20 in such games. The program’s previous best wins were over a couple of No. 2s — Oregon in 2019 and Stanford in 2008. Elina Aarnisalo added 13 points as one of five Bruins in double figures. Ramban, Nov 24: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) along with officers of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today conducted a comprehensive security review of Shiv Khori Shrine in Ransoo and its adjoining areas to ensure robust security measures and effective crowd management for the safety of pilgrims and locals. According to police spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Paramveer Singh accompanied by officers from CRPF, (126 Battalion), Dy.SP Headquarters Reasi Neeraj Padyar. PC Pouni Ashwani Sharma, SHO Ransoo, and CRPF personnel stationed at Shiv Khori. During the review, Dy SP, PC, Pouni presented a detailed briefing on the deployment of manpower and current security arrangements in the area. SSP inspected the security arrangements along the Yatra route, including the main track, where additional measures have been implemented to enhance surveillance. He emphasised maintaining strict vigilance against anti-national and anti-social elements and issued specific directions to the District Police and CRPF officers for bolstering security protocols. The review covered all security drills related to the Shiv Khori Shrine, the Yatra route, and safety arrangements for the thousands of pilgrims visiting the holy site daily. SSP also interacted with Road Opening Party (ROP) commanders’ en route from Pouni to Ransoo to assess their preparedness. Highlighting the importance of preemptive measures, SSP directed officers to carry out verification and census of migrants, workers, pony porters, and other individuals operating in Ransoo town and surrounding areas. Random checks of hotels and residential accommodations were also instructed to verify the antecedents of visitors and prevent any suspicious activity. Acknowledging recent attempts to revive militancy in certain parts of Reasi district, SSP instructed officers to revisit the list of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) associated with police stations in the area. He also stressed the need for rigorous monitoring of social media platforms such as Facebook and Whatsapp to counter emerging patterns of radicalisation. SSP also supervised ongoing Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) in the Pouni-Ransoo belt and reiterated the importance of inter-agency coordination and cooperation. He urged all security forces deployed in the area to work in synergy to prevent any untoward incidents.
These Steeply Discounted D&D Book Collections Are Perfect Gifts For New PlayersPressure is on the Albanese government to make headway on its long list of stalled legislation before the federal election, as the final sitting week of 2024 begins in Canberra today. Housing will be back in the spotlight with the Help to Buy government equity scheme and incentives for build-to-rent to be brought to a final vote in the Senate, after failing to pass without support from the opposition or the Greens. The government knocked back fresh demands from the Greens, which included funding for 25,000 “shovel-ready” homes not given the go-ahead under the first round of the Housing Australia Future Fund. Labor insists the demand is unlawful and would result in the construction of million-dollar homes that are not value for money. With 30 or so bills still before the parliament, the government has been ramping up pressure on the Greens and the coalition to co-operate. A friendless crackdown on misinformation and disinformation has been shelved, and gambling reforms have been pushed into next year. The government is expecting wins on its aged care reforms and its social media age limit, with the former expected to attract opposition support. Labor will also be spruiking its Future Made in Australia plan, with its hydrogen and critical minerals production tax incentives to be introduced to parliament on Monday. The federal election is due to be held by May 17. In the wee hours Sunday at the United Nations climate talks, countries from around the world reached an agreement on how rich countries can cough up the funds to support poor countries in the face of climate change. It’s a far-from-perfect arrangement, with many parties still deeply unsatisfied but some hopeful that the deal will be a step in the right direction. Here’s how they got there: Rich countries have agreed to pool together at least $300 billion a year by 2035. It’s not near the full amount of $1.3 trillion that developing countries were asking for, and that experts said was needed. But delegations more optimistic about the agreement said this deal is headed in the right direction, with hopes that more money flows in the future. The deal decided in Baku replaces a previous agreement from 15 years ago that charged rich nations $100 billion a year to help the developing world with climate finance. The new number has similar aims: it will go toward the developing world’s long laundry list of to-dos to prepare for a warming world and keep it from getting hotter. That includes paying for the transition to clean energy and away from fossil fuels. Countries need funds to build up the infrastructure needed to deploy technologies like wind and solar power on a large scale. Election results around the world that herald a change in climate leadership, a few key players with motive to stall the talks and a disorganized host country all led to a final crunch that left few happy with a flawed compromise. Developing nations also faced some difficulties agreeing in the final hours. Meanwhile, activists ramped up the pressure: many urged negotiators to stay strong and asserted that no deal would be better than a bad deal. But ultimately the desire for a deal won out. Two MIT professors, an alumnus, and a former postdoc are among the winners of 2024’s Nobel Prizes. Professors Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson, PhD ’89, shared the prize in economics with political scientist James Robinson of the University of Chicago, with whom they have long collaborated. Using evidence from the last 500 years, their work has empirically demonstrated that “inclusive” governments such as democracies, which extend individual rights and political liberties while upholding the rule of law, have generated greater economic activity than “extractive” political systems, where power is wielded by a small elite. Partly because economic growth depends on technological innovation, it is best sustained when countries protect property rights, giving more people the incentive to invent things. Acemoglu, an Institute Professor, has been a member of the MIT faculty since 1993. Johnson, the Ronald A. Kurtz Professor of Entrepreneurship at MIT Sloan, was chief economist of the International Monetary Fund from 2007 to 2008. Meanwhile, Victor Ambros ’75, PhD ’79, a professor at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, and Gary Ruvkun, a professor at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, shared the prize in medicine for their discovery of microRNA, a class of tiny RNA molecules that help govern gene regulation. This crucial mechanism allows cells with the same chromosomes to develop into cell types with different characteristics and functions. The foundation for their discoveries was laid by their work on mutant forms of the roundworm as MIT postdocs in the of Professor H. Robert Horvitz (who would win a Nobel in 2002). Later, working independently, they showed that a certain roundworm gene produces a very short RNA molecule that binds to messenger RNA encoding a different gene and blocks it from being translated into protein. Since then, more than 1,000 microRNA genes have been found in humans. In an , Ambros also credited the contributions of collaborators including his wife, , and postdoc Rhonda Feinbaum.Democrats push judicial nominations through GOP delaysWhite House & US carriers held a meeting on hacks from China
