Sean Dyche said Nottingham Forest ’s surprise achievers are reaping a reward for bringing Chris Wood back to life as he paid tribute to his former Burnley forward for answering his critics. Wood has scored 10 Premier League goals, a total exceeded only by Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer and Alexander Isak, to help Forest go third with their Boxing Day win over Tottenham. Dyche made the New Zealand international Burnley’s record buy when he paid Leeds £15m for the striker in 2017 and Wood went on to become the Clarets’ record scorer in the Premier League with 49 goals. He now has the same status with Forest after proving prolific for Nuno Espirito Santo , but only after a time at Newcastle where he only got five goals in 39 appearances and a slow start to his life at the City Ground. And Dyche, whose Everton team host Wood’s Forest on Sunday, was quick to praise the high-flying side, saying: “I have been impressed by what they’ve been doing – very organised, working to plan the counter and break and defend well. They’ve done that very well. They’ve brought to life Woody, who I know well, and the goals he’s been scoring, and they’ve turned into a very strong outfit.” Dyche sees similarities in how Nuno is using Wood and how he did during their time together at Turf Moor as he said the striker’s attitude is a key factor in his revival. “Possibly his maturity in the game, his knowledge of the game,” he added. “He’s got a different format they’re working to there which seems to be to his liking. He’s got wide players, they’ve got a strength behind them, and they get the ball up to him quickly. “That seems to be a thing that’s good for him and not massively dissimilar to what we were trying to achieve at Burnley. But yeah, I think a lot of credit to him, credit to his professionalism to keep on top of himself. He had a quiet spell when he first went there and [there were] a few question marks over him. That can happen with strikers. He’s had that before and he’s come through it. Certainly a very good player, and someone I’ve got a lot of respect for.”gal sport betting app download

Image credit: X (Twitter) Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni defended her ties with tech billionaire Elon Musk . According to a report by the news agency AP, Meloni has assured the country’s lawmakers that her friendship with Musk would not affect her decisions on issues involving his economic interests. Since taking office in 2022, Meloni, who has frequently met the Tesla and SpaceX founder, asserted that she still aims to attract investments to Italy. Recently, Italy approved a framework allowing foreign space companies to operate in the country, a move projected to bring €7.3 billion ($7.7 billion) in investments by 2026. What Meloni said about her ties with Musk Responding to questions during a customary parliamentary discussion ahead of the EU summit in Brussels, Meloni said: “I can be a friend of Elon Musk and at the same time the head of the first Italian government that made a new law to regulate private activity in space.” Criticising her predecessors, Meloni stated that former Italian leaders “who thought they had a good relationship, even a friendship, with a foreign leader, they had to slavishly follow what the others did.” She emphasised her independence, saying she maintains good relationships “with many people” but “I don’t take orders from anyone.” Meloni and Musk’s friendship over the years Meloni and Musk's friendship has garnered attention in the past. In September, Musk denied rumours of a romantic relationship after a photo of them at a black-tie event in New York went viral. At the event, Musk presented Meloni with an award. A year ago, Musk appeared at an event for youth members of Meloni's party in Italy. More recently, he used his social media platform X (earlier Twitter) to criticise an Italian court decision blocking Meloni's plan to process migrants rescued at sea in Albania. His comments also prompted a sharp response from Italy’s president.Ranked teams are on the Wednesday college basketball schedule in six games, including the Ole Miss Rebels taking on the UConn Huskies. ROME (AP) — Robert Lewandowski joined Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the only players in Champions League history with 100 or more goals. But Erling Haaland is on a faster pace than anyone by boosting his total to 46 goals at age 24 on Tuesday. Still, Haaland's brace wasn't enough for Manchester City in a 3-3 draw with Feyenoord that extended the Premier League champion's winless streak to six matches. Lewandowski’s early penalty kick started Barcelona off to a 3-0 win over previously unbeaten Brest to move into second place in the new single-league format. The Poland striker added goal No. 101 in second-half stoppage time. Ronaldo leads the all-time scoring list with 140 goals and Messi is next with 129. But neither Ronaldo nor Messi play in the Champions League anymore following moves to Saudi Arabia and the United States, respectively. “It’s a nice number,” Lewandowski said. “In the past I didn’t think I could score more than 100 goals in the Champions League. I’m in good company alongside Cristiano and Messi.” The 36-year-old Lewandowski required 125 matches to reach the century mark, two more than Messi (123) and 12 fewer than Ronaldo (137). Barcelona also got a second-half score from Dani Olmo. The top eight finishers in the standings advance directly to the round of 16 in March. Teams ranked ninth to 24th go into a knockout playoffs round in February, while the bottom 12 teams are eliminated. Haaland has 46 goals in 44 games Haaland converted a first-half penalty to eclipse Messi as the youngest player to reach 45 goals then scored City's third after the break to raise his total to 46 goals in 44 games. Ilkay Gundogan had City's second. But then Feyenoord struck back with goals from Anis Hadj Moussa, Santiago Gimenez and David Hancko. Inter leads standings and hasn't conceded a goal Inter Milan beat Leipzig 1-0 with an own goal to move atop the standings with 13 points, one more than Barcelona and Liverpool, which faces Real Madrid on Wednesday. The Serie A champion is the only club that hasn't conceded a goal. Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 — the same score from the 2020 final between the two teams. PSG ended with 10 men and remained in the elimination zone. The French powerhouse has struggled in Europe after Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid. Kim Min-jae’s first-half header was enough for Bayern, especially after Ousmane Dembelé was sent off in the 56th with his second yellow. Atalanta moved within two points of the lead with a 6-1 win at Young Boys. Charles De Ketelaere scored two and assisted on three other goals for Atalanta. Also, Arsenal kept red-hot striker Viktor Gyokeres quiet in a 5-1 win over Sporting Lisbon; and Germany star Florian Wirtz scored two goals and was involved in two more as Bayer Leverkusen boosted its chances of finishing in the top eight with a 5-0 rout of Salzburg. AC Milan follows up win over Real Madrid with another victory AC Milan followed up its win at Real Madrid with a 3-2 victory at last-place Slovan Bratislava in an early match. Christian Pulisic put the seven-time champion ahead midway through the first half by finishing off a counterattack. Then Rafael Leao restored the Rossoneri’s advantage after Tigran Barseghyan had equalized for Bratislava and Tammy Abraham quickly added another. Nino Marcelli scored with a long-range strike in the 88th for Bratislava, which ended with 10 men. Bratislava has lost all five of its matches. Alvarez and Griezmann lead Atletico to 6-0 rout Argentina World Cup winner Julian Alvarez scored twice and Atletico Madrid routed Sparta Prague 6-0 in the other early game. Alvarez scored with a free kick 15 minutes in and Marcos Llorente added a long-range strike before the break. Alvarez finished off a counterattack early in the second half after being set up by substitute Antoine Griezmann, who then marked his 100th Champions League game by getting on the scoresheet himself. Angel Correa added a late brace for Atletico, which earned its biggest away win in Europe. Atletico beat Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round and extended its winning streak across all competitions to six matches. ___ AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer Andrew Dampf, The Associated PressNBC Sports enters Madden video game universe with alternate broadcast on Peacock
