The commuters said that amid rising accidents, there is a need to check over speeding by tippers. “So many precious human lives have been lost only in the last past few months due to overspeeding by vehicles. Amid ongoing drive launched by Traffic police to prevent underage driving, it is mandatory to check the movement of tippers during evening and night hours to prevent accidents,” said Muneer Ahmad, a commuter. “These tipper operators are using various tactics to hide number plates to escape in case of an accident. This gives them ways to violate traffic rules while putting the lives of other commuters at risk,” said another commuter. Recently a video went viral on social media showing how illegal high beam lights were installed near number plates to keep them from detecting. “It also blocks the vision of commuters who are on the tail-end of these vehicles. This can cause major accidents,” said a commuter. The commuters appealed to the Traffic authorities to act against traffic violators and to increase their drives against heavy vehicle operators. SSP Traffic Police (Srinagar) Muzaffar Ahmad Shah said that they have intensified their efforts to combat all kinds of traffic violations. He said that the traffic police will ensure that neither LMVs nor heavy vehicles violate any rule. “We are striving towards safer roads in Srinagar, and we will take strict action against all violators. What if the recipient had used the instrument to spread joy on Christmas Eve? And what should we think when the one bestowing the charity expressed sincere-sounding reluctance to receive any sort of praise? Finally, what are we to make of it when, notwithstanding the giver’s reluctance, the act went viral on social media? When all of those things occur at once, perhaps we should conclude that had His hand on everyone involved.
