A rescheduled fixture from round 11 of the 2024-25 League One season sees Leyton Orient and Huddersfield Town go head-to-head against each other at Brisbane Road on Tuesday evening. The teams have made contrasting starts to the current campaign, with the visitors firmy in contention for a place in the playoffs as things stand, while their hosts are currently embroiled in a relegation battle. © Imago After losing each of their opening four league matches, Leyton Orient went on a downward spiral for the next two months, during which they managed just four wins from 12 matches across all competitions. However, Richie Wellens 's men have since turned things around, embarking on a three-game winning streak across league and cup duty prior to their goalless stalemate against Stevenage Town at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday. Despite their resurgence in recent weeks, the Os are 21st in the League One table , one point adrift of safety, albeit with two games on hand on Crawley Town, who currently sit just outside the relegation zone. A chance to win game number four on the bounce in front of their fans now awaits Leyton Orient off the back of victories over Colchester United, Rotherham and most recently Blackpool in the three home outings prior. However, the hosts have historically struggled in games against the visitors having failed to win any of the most recent eight editions of this fixture, although Tuesday's clash will be the first meeting between the teams since 2015, and Leyton will be hoping for a change in fortunes. © Imago Unlike Leyton Orient, Huddersfield flew out of the blocks with four wins from their first four matches, after which they went on a dry patch, losing seven of their subsequent eight matches across all competitions. Michael Duff 's men would finally return to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Barnsley on October 5, and that has formed the basis for an upturn in form that has yielded five wins and two draws from their eight matches since. Last time out, The Terriers claimed a 2-1 triumph over Charlton Athletic at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday thanks to goals from Matthew Pearson and David Kasumu either side of Matthew Godden 's equaliser. Seeking an instant return to the Championship after their relegation last time out, Huddersfield are fifth in the standings at the moment, five points shy of automatic promotion with a game in hand but also level on points with the teams just outside the playoff places. Currently with the joint fourth-best defensive record in the division, only behind Wrexham, Wigan and Exeter, Tuesday's visitors have fared well at the back but certainly have a higher gear to find at the top end of the pitch. © Imago Leyton's Ollie O'Neill was shown his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Stevenage, making him ineligible to play any part here due to a one-game suspension. Charlie Kelman looks set to become the biggest beneficiary of O'Neill's absence as he is set to return to the lineup after having to settle for a cameo last time out. Twenty-five-year-old David Kasumu has now found the back of the net in consecutive matches for Huddersfield and will be looking to deliver the goods once again. Matthew Pearson and Rhys Healey are major doubts for the away side here after both coming off with injury scares before the half-time whistle against Charlton. Leyton Orient possible starting lineup: Keeley; Currie, Happe, Beckles, James; Warrington, Pratley; Kelman, Galbraith, Perkins; Agyei Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup: Chapman; Lonwijk, Lees, Helik; Miller, Kasumu, Kane, Wiles, Spencer; Koroma, Radulovic All indications point to a victory for Huddersfield, but Leyton Orient will be keen to put up a decent fight on their home ground. Nonetheless, we are tipping the visitors to carry the day and come away with maximum points when all is said and done. Two high school students and their families sued their high school and school district, alleging violations of their First and Fourteenth Amendment rights as well as Title IX protection. A California high school caved to a student uprising after hundreds of students showed up wearing T-shirts that read "Save Girls' Sports" to protest a trans athlete on the cross-country team, defying the school's latest dress code. The school had previously put students in detention for wearing the shirts. But a source told Fox News Digital that the school did not dress-code students when they showed up wearing the shirts on Wednesday. Parents of the school's students provided an update to California Family Council outreach director Sophia Lorey, claiming that administrators had a meeting Wednesday morning where faculty was instructed not to dress-code students, Lorey told Fox News Digital. "Today students once again wore their ‘Save Girls Sports’ shirts," Lorey wrote to Fox News Digital. "According to the email sent out earlier this week from MLK HS Principal Leann Iacuone only the shirts that stated ‘XX=/XY’ should receive a dress code. Yet, as of now no student who is wearing that shirt today has received a dress code. I received information that there was a staff meeting today before school were the staff was told not to dress code." CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Lorey added that students at neighboring schools have begun to wear the T-shirts as Martin Luther King's situation has garnered national attention. These schools include Arlington High School and Riverside Polytechnical High School, which share a school district with Martin Luther King. Ramona High School in Ramona, California, which is 83 miles south of Riverside, has also seen its students wear the shirts. The students have worn the shirts every Wednesday, resulting in discipline by school administrators. But detention and dress code violations never shuttered their spirit. Many students at the school have gone viral on social media by sharing details of the situation with photos and videos of them wearing the shirts. The student uprising came amid an ongoing lawsuit over two girls' cross-country runners who alleged their T-shirts were compared to swastikas by school administrators. Another student athlete on the school's cross-country team, Rylee Morrow, brought more national attention to the situation when she gave an impassioned speech at a school board meeting in November in a clip that went viral due to her conveyed fears of having to share a locker room with a biological male. Lorey commended the students for taking a stand and pushing the school district to withdraw its discipline on Wednesday. "By wearing their ‘Save Girls Sports’ shirts, these young leaders are showing that they won’t back down in the face of pressure or opposition - even from their own administration. It’s not just about athletics—it’s about standing up for the integrity and rights of female athletes everywhere," Lorey wrote. But anti-trans messaging isn't the only social media activity that has erupted from the school. SJSU TRANSGENDER VOLLEYBALL SCANDAL: TIMELINE OF ALLEGATIONS, POLITICAL IMPACT AND A RAGING CULTURE MOVEMENT On Wednesday, a trans athlete at the school allegedly made a private post on Instagram lashing out against detractors who have questioned and opposed trans inclusion on the school's girls' cross-country team. Multiple sources, including Lorey, have confirmed the message was posted to the athlete's private Instagram story. The athlete also allegedly expressed an intention to compete in girls' pole-vaulting and said that competing against male opponents resulted in disappointing finishes. In a statement previously provided to Fox News Digital, the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) said it has allowed the transgender athlete to compete on the team because it must comply with California state law. "It is important to remember that RUSD is bound to follow California law which requires that students be 'permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records,'" the statement said. "While these rules were not created by RUSD, the district is committed to complying with the law and CIF regulations. California state law prohibits discrimination of students based on gender, gender identity and gender expression and specifically prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in physical education and athletics. The protections we provide to all students are not only aligned with the law but also with our core values, which include equity and well-being." The school said those who are upset by it should direct their anger to state and federal lawmakers. "As these matters play out in our courts and the media, opposition and protests should be directed at those in a position to affect those laws and policies, including officials in Washington, D.C., and Sacramento," the statement said. California has had laws in effect to protect transgender athletes in women's sports since 2014. That year, AB 1266 took effect , giving California students at scholastic and collegiate levels the right to "participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records." Other high school and college students in California have expressed opposition to trans athletes in girls' sports. Those girls were commended at a ceremony held by women's athletic rights activist Riley Gaines at their own high school on Dec. 4. Meanwhile, another California transgender high school volleyball player was booed and harassed at an Oct. 12 match between Notre Dame Belmont and Half Moon Bay High School, according to ABC 7. Half Moon Bay rostered the transgender athlete. At the college level, San Jose State's volleyball team was at the center of a national media firestorm this season over the presence of a transgender athlete on the team and a teammate being involved in multiple lawsuits over the issue. The team saw eight of its matches forfeited, including a conference tournament match, amid the controversy, which only brought more national attention to the team as it made it all the way to the Mountain West championship game. ‘Knee-jerk’ policy: Experts warn against Labor’s under-16 social media banThe New York Giants on Friday released their starting quarterback and former high first-round pick Daniel Jones a couple of days after demoting him to the number 3 quarterback. The Giants were going to release him after the season as he had an over $20 million injury-protected guarantee. I think the Dolphins should try to sign him after he clears waivers. I’m not saying Daniel Jones is the answer at backup quarterback, but he seems like a fit in this offense. Jones got rid of the ball quickly in 2.5 seconds, not as quick as starter Tua Tagovalioa, but close enough. The Dolphins screwed their backup quarterback position this year, and they paid the price, but now is a chance for Mike McDaniel and Frank Smith to build back up another young quarterback, whose confidence must be shattered, just like he did with Tagovailoa a couple of years ago. Jones was caught in the middle of a regime change with the Giants in 2022 as they brought in a new general manager and head coach, so they inherited him. Jones played out the final year of his rookie contract and played the best season of his career. He led the Giants to the playoffs and won a road playoff game. Winning a playoff game is something Tagovailoa hasn’t done in his career. Jones’ career turned south in a hurry after the Giants gave him a new 4-year $160 million contract. The Giants sunk fast, and Jones didn’t play well, but the Giants didn’t help him out either. Their offensive line is a mess; they let their best playmaker, running back Saquan Barkley, leave this off-season, and outside of the top pick, Malik Nabers has no playmakers to throw the ball to. Now Jones has to play better, and he does not see the field well, and that’s probably because his confidence was shattered. He knew the righting was on the wall with the New York media always speculating about his job, and it didn’t help the Giants considered trading up for a quarterback in last year’s draft one year after giving Jones that contract. In the last few years, we have seen many high-draft pick quarterbacks get released by the teams that drafted them and resurrect their careers elsewhere. Sam Darnold was the number 3 pick in the 2018 NFL draft by the New York Jets, and this year is the starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings, who are 8-2 and on their way to the playoffs. The Vikings drafted a quarterback in the first round of this year’s draft, but Darnold will land on his feet elsewhere. Baker Mayfield was the number 1 pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 draft, and after they dumped him a few years ago, he landed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a year and led them to the playoffs. He got a new contract and has the Bucs in the playoff hunt again. Geno Smith was a second-round pick of the Jets years ago, and after bouncing around the league, he landed on his feet with the Seattle Seahawks and got coached up to play well. He led them to the playoffs a couple of years ago and got a new deal and is doing well. These are just a few examples off the top of my head, but what it shows is that going to the right situation can help build a quarterback up and play well. Tagovailoa clashed with former Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores, and the Dolphins changed coaches. McDaniel has gotten Tagovailoa to play the best football of his career . He rebuilt his confidence, which was shattered, and brought out a personality that no one had seen before to lead this team. This is a time for Jones to get a fresh start and rebuild his career, and McDaniel could be the guy to do that. I think the Dolphins should seriously consider signing him for the rest of the year and next year to see if McDaniel can build him back up like he did Tagovailoa as well as see what he can do on the field. Jones’s skill set just looks like a good fit for the Dolphins. An acorn fell out of the tree, and it’s time for the Dolphins to pick him up. What do they have to lose? Ducks forward Trevor Zegras has surgery on torn knee meniscus, will be out for 6 weeksMohamed Salah’s landmark goal pulls Liverpool clear in Champions LeagueArticle content A Vancouver leather goods artisan is pleading for help after a thief broke into her studio, stealing more than a thousand dollars worth of handcrafted bags. Last Sunday around 9:30 a.m., a man broke into Maxine Young’s Gastown workspace, Mameyo Goods, while the small business owner was at a market selling her hand-made accessories. “Yesterday was my last market of the year, and to come back to a broken-in studio was heartbreaking,” Young posted in an emotional plea shared on social media Tuesday. “This is a huge hit to my small business, not only financially, but also I’ve lost security in one of my favourite places to be.” Surveillance footage shows the thief taking several handbags valued at approximately $1,500. But one in particular — the very first bag Young ever made — cannot be replaced. Young is appealing to the public for help in recovering The Penny bucket bag, which she describes not just as a product, but as the prototype that sparked the creation of her small business. “It is the very first bag that I made, and it’s the one that started off the whole business,” said Young, who designs and handcrafts each bag in her Gastown workshop from leather sourced as a by-product of the meat industry. “This is the one that I want back.” While the Vancouver Police Department confirmed Thursday that it is investigating the Dec. 8 break-in, no arrests have been made, Sgt. Tania Visintin said in an email. Since sharing her story on social media, Young said she has been overwhelmed with support, but has received no leads about the thief’s identity. She is, however, warning people not to approach him. Walley Wargolet, president of the Gastown Business Improvement Association, said break-ins and thefts have long been a concern for local businesses, as thieves increasingly target the historic neighbourhood with troubling frequency. Vancouver’s Central Business District, including Gastown, has the highest rate of thefts, break-ins, and weapon-related crimes in the city, according to the latest crime data. In October, the downtown district reported three times as many robberies (423) as Vancouver’s other neighbourhoods. According to Vancouver police crime map data, there were 27 break-ins reported at businesses just in the past four weeks. “We know one particular case in the neighbourhood where the suspect has 90 individual arrests of shoplifting and is still out on the street,” said Wargolet. However, the business representative said he believes the solution does not solely lie in increasing police presence in the neighbourhood. “Focusing solely on putting more police on the street is not going to fix the problem,” said Wargolet. “Many of the people committing these crimes are in real need of mental health and addiction support.” In September, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim promised to tackle Gastown’s problem of violent robberies linked to repeat shoplifters by establishing a community policing centre in the neighbourhood. “These plans are progressing,” said Wargolet, noting that the Gastown Business Improvement Association has a meeting with police and city officials next week.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Tens of thousands of Spaniards marched in downtown Barcelona on Saturday to protest the skyrocketing cost of renting an apartment in the popular tourist destination. Protesters cut off traffic on main avenues in the city center, holding up homemade signs in Spanish reading “Fewer apartments for investing and more homes for living" and “The people without homes uphold their rights.” The lack of affordable housing has become one of the leading concerns for the southern European Union country, mirroring the housing crunch across many parts of the world, including the United States . Organizers said that over 100,000 had turned out, while Barcelona’s police said they estimated some 22,000 marched. Either way, the throngs of people clogging the streets recalled the massive separatist rallies at the height of the previous decade’s Catalan independence movement. Now, social concerns led by housing have displaced political crusades. That is because the average rent for Spain has doubled in last 10 years. The price per square meter has risen from 7.2 euros ($7.5) in 2014 to 13 euros this year, according to the popular online real estate website Idealista. The growth is even more acute in cities like Barcelona and Madrid. Incomes meanwhile have failed to keep up, especially for younger people in a country with chronically high unemployment. Protestor Samuel Saintot said he is “frustrated and scared” after being told by the owners of the apartment he has rented for the past 15 years in Barcelona’s city center that he must vacate the premises. He suspects that the owners want him out so they can renovate it and boost the price. “Even looking in a 20- or 30-kilometer radius outside town, I can’t even find anything within the price range I can afford,” he told The Associated Press. “And I consider myself a very fortunate person, because I earn a decent salary. And even in my case, I may be forced to leave town.” A report by the Bank of Spain indicates that nearly 40% of Spaniards who rent dedicate an average of 40% of their income to paying rents and utilities, compared to the European Union average of 27% of renters who do so. “We are talking about a housing emergency. It means people having many difficulties both in accessing and staying in their homes,” said Ignasi Martí, professor for Esade business school and head of its Dignified Housing Observatory. The rise in rents is causing significant pain in Spain, where traditionally people seek to own their homes. Rental prices have also been driven up by short-term renters including tourists. Many migrants to Spain are also disproportionately hit by the high rents because they often do not have enough savings. Spain is near the bottom end of OECD countries with under 2% of all housing available being public housing for rent. The OECD average is 7%. Spain is far behind France, with 14%, Britain with 16%, and the Netherlands with 34%. Carme Arcarazo, spokesperson for Barcelona’s Tenants Union which helped organize the protest, said that renters should consider a “rent strike” and cease paying their monthly rents in a mass protest movement. “I think we the tenants have understood that this depends on us. That we can’t keep asking and making demands to the authorities and waiting for an answer. We must take the reins of the situation,” Arcarazo told the AP. “So, if they (the owners) won’t lower the rent, then we will force them to do it." The Barcelona protest came a month after tens of thousands rallied against high rents in Madrid. The rising discontent over housing is putting pressure on Spain’s governing Socialist party, which leads a coalition on the national level and is in charge of Catalonia’s regional government and Barcelona’s city hall. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez presided over what the government termed a “housing summit” including government officials and real estate developers last month. But the Barcelona’s Tenants Union boycotted the event, saying it was like calling a summit for curing cancer and inviting tobacco companies to participate. The leading government measure has been a rent cap mechanism that the central government has offered to regional authorities based on a price index established by the housing ministry. Rent controls can be applied to areas deemed to be “highly stressed” by high rental prices. Catalonia was the first region to apply those caps, which are in place in downtown Barcelona. Many locals blame the million of tourists who visit Barcelona, and the rest of Spain, each year for the high prices. Barcelona’s town hall has pledged to completely eliminate the city’s 10,000 so called “tourist apartments,” or dwellings with permits for short-term rents, by 2028.CEO murder spurs hostility, rage online over health care

Uruguay's voters choose their next president in a close runoff with low stakes but much suspenseThe Big Ten Conference released its 2025 football schedule on Wednesday afternoon, handing UCLA some new Big Ten opponents as well as some familiar competition from the Pac-12. The Bruins will close out the season on Nov. 29 with a rivalry game against USC at the Coliseum with hopes of taking back the Victory Bell. UCLA lost, 19-13, at the Rose Bowl in this season’s edition of the rivalry. The second Big Ten Conference schedule for the Bruins includes away games against Northwestern, Michigan State, Indiana, Ohio State and USC. Home conference games will come against Penn State, Maryland, Nebraska and former Pac-12 foe Washington. UCLA has played Northwestern only once since 1970 and hasn’t squared up with Maryland since 1955. The Bruins will alternate home and away games on a weekly basis, as opposed to a 2024 slate that featured back-to-back road games on two different occasions. Although head coach DeShaun Foster said the team had gotten the hang of Big Ten travel, the 2025 schedule could alleviate some travel fatigue. The nonconference schedule includes a season opener at home against Pac-12-turned-Big-12 opponent Utah, followed by a game at UNLV and another home game against New Mexico before a bye week. The timing of the bye week could be another benefit for UCLA and allow the Bruins to prepare and rest ahead of its Big Ten schedule. UCLA had a bye immediately after its first game this season and resumed its schedule with five straight losses.
