The top diplomats met for the final time before a new U.S. administration takes office with wars raging in the Mideast and Ukraine. “Knock on wood,” Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said as he opened the Group of Seven meeting outside Rome. “We are perhaps close to a ceasefire in Lebanon," he said. "Let's hope it's true and that there's no backing down at the last-minute.” A ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon was foremost on the agenda of the G7 meeting in Fiuggi, outside Rome, that gathered ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, in the last G7 encounter of the Biden administration. For the first time, the G7 ministers were joined by their counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, the so-called “Arab Quintet,” as well as the Secretary General of the Arab League. “Everyone favors a ceasefire in both scenarios,” Tajani told reporters, adding that Italy had offered to take on an even greater peacekeeping role in Lebanon to oversee any ceasefire deal. As the ministers arrived in Italy, Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Mike Herzog, told Israeli Army Radio on Monday a ceasefire deal to end fighting between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah could be reached “within days.” Several Arab ministers reiterated calls for a ceasefire in both Lebanon and Gaza during a G7-affiliated conference in Rome. “We need a ceasefire, a permanent ceasefire. That will stop the killings and stop the destruction and restore a sense of normalcy to life,” Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi told the conference. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, for his part, reaffirmed that Cairo would host a minister-level conference next Monday on mobilizing international aid for Gaza. The so-called “Quintet” has been working with the U.S. to finalize a “day after” plan for Gaza. There is some urgency to make progress before the Trump administration takes over in January. President-elect Donald Trump is expected to pursue a policy that strongly favors Israel over the aspirations of the Palestinians. Tajani added another item to the G7 agenda last week after the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defense minister and Hamas’ military chief. Italy is a founding member of the court and hosted the 1998 Rome conference that gave birth to it. But Italy’s right-wing government has been a strong supporter of Israel after the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks, while also providing humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza. The Italian government has taken a cautious line, reaffirming its support and respect for the court but expressing concern that the warrants were politically motivated. The United States, Israel's closest ally, has called the warrants “outrageous.” Tajani acknowledged consensus hadn't been reached among the G7 members but hoped for agreement to have a unified position. He noted that all sides need Netanyahu to make any deal. “We can also not agree with how his government has led the reaction after the massacre of Oct. 7, but now we have to deal with Netanyahu to arrive at peace in Lebanon, peace in Palestine,” Tajani said. Nathalie Tocci, director of the Rome-based Institute for International Affairs think tank, warned that inserting the ICC warrant into the G7 agenda was risky, since the U.S. is the lone member that is not a signatory to the court and yet tends to dictate the G7 line. “If Italy and the other (five G7) signatories of the ICC are unable to maintain the line on international law, they will not only erode it anyway but will be acting against our interests,” Tocci wrote in La Stampa daily this weekend, recalling Italy’s recourse to international law in demanding protection for Italian U.N. peacekeepers who have come under fire in southern Lebanon. The other major talking point of the G7 meeting is Ukraine , and tensions have only heightened since Russia attacked Ukraine last week with an experimental, hypersonic ballistic missile that escalated the nearly 33-month-old war. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the strike was retaliation for Kyiv’s use of U.S. and British longer-range missiles capable of striking deeper into Russian territory. The G7 has been at the forefront of providing military and economic support for Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022 and G7 members are particularly concerned about how a Trump administration will change the U.S. approach. Trump has criticized the billions of dollars that the Biden administration has poured into Ukraine and has said he could end the war in 24 hours, comments that appear to suggest he would press Ukraine to surrender territory that Russia now occupies. “It’s hugely important that this G7, that all colleagues across the G7 continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it lasts,” British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said as he arrived. He announced new sanctions on vessels of Russia's “shadow fleet” of ships that are evading sanctions to export Russian oil. “And we are confident that Ukraine can have the funds and the military equipment and kit to get through 2025,” Lammy said. The G7 foreign ministers’ meeting, the second of the Italian presidency after ministers gathered in Capri in April , is being held in the medieval town of Fiuggi southeast of Rome, best known for its thermal spas. On Monday, which coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, ministers were attending the inauguration of a red bench meant to symbolize Italy’s focus on fighting gender-based violence. Over the weekend, tens of thousands of people marched in Rome to protest gender-based violence , which in Italy so far this year has claimed the lives of 99 women, according to a report last week by the Eures think tank.None

DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Lions fan involved in the heated exchange at the Thursday night football game with Green Bay Head Coach Matt LaFleur is speaking out about what exactly happened. Fahad Yousif is a die-hard Lions fan and season ticket holder. He says from the age of ten, all he could do was talk about his love for the Lions. “I don’t love many things. I love my wife. I love my family and I love the Detroit Lions," Yousif said. "I have a Lions tattoo on my leg.” INTERVIEW: Lions fan talks about heated exchange with Packers head coach: As a season ticket holder, he gets to choose one perk per season. On Thursday, he chose to help carry out the U.S. Flag during the National Anthem with his wife, which he has done before. The last time he did that, he talked some smack talk with the opposing team as well. He says the team smiled at his snide remarks and egged him on. But that wasn't what happened Thursday night. “We’re about five, ten yards away from the sideline just kind of looking at all the players, definitely letting them know you’re going down, you’re done it’s over, let them know we’re gonna beat you two times, once home, once here and [LaFleur] didn’t like that," Yousif said. “Once I did the throat slash he absolutely lost it which I understand. I mean, I got caught up in the moment, and the fans, and the adrenaline and stuff but it was madness.” At a post-game press conference, LaFleur addressed the incident. Related Video: Watch the press conference below: "I've never been a part of something like that. He was talking junk to our players, giving them the throat-slash sign, you know. You're trying to de-escalate it. And then he gets in my face," he said. Yousif said the smack talk was all in good fun and that he wasn't expecting such a reaction from the head coach. Because of the altercation, Yousif did not get to walk the flag out to the field and was asked to take his seat. Before halftime, he was asked to leave the game altogether. He says some Lions fans have called him a hero, and others have told him they were disappointed in his behavior, which Yousif says he completely understands. “I love the Lions. The moment, I got caught up in it. I do feel a little bit like maybe I may have embarrassed some fans and the organization, but that is not my intentions at all. I absolutely love the team. I’m sad it worked out this way but I’m glad we got that win," he said. The whole ordeal was shocking for Yousif, who hasn't heard from the Lions if there would be any repercussions for the now-viral moment.
NEW YORK (AP) — Having waited 63 years for an Ivy League football title, Columbia had to stand by for another 40 minutes. The Lions had beaten Cornell 17-9 but needed a Harvard loss against Yale to secure a share of first place on the season's final day. So Columbia players retreated to their locker room on a hill a few hundred feet from Wien Stadium to watch the game in Boston on TV as a few hundred fans remained and gazed at the gold-and-orange foliage of Inwood Hill Park glowing in Saturday's afternoon sun. When Yale recovered onside kick with seconds left to ensure a 34-29 Harvard defeat, players let out a scream and streamed back onto the field to celebrate, smoke cigars, lift a trophy and sing “Roar, Lion, Roar” with family and friends. Who would have thunk it? “You had the realization of, oh, I’m a champion, which is something that hasn’t been said here in a while,” co-captain CJ Brown said. Harvard dropped into a tie with Columbia and Dartmouth at 5-2, the first time three teams shared the title since 1982 — the conference doesn't use tiebreakers. “It was nerve-wracking, for sure, but definitely exciting because that's something that not a lot of people have experienced, especially here," running back Joey Giorgi said. There have been several top players at Columbia — Sid Luckman, Marty Domres, Marcellus Wiley among them — but the school is perhaps better known for owners such as the New England Patriots' Robert Kraft and former Cleveland Browns head Al Lerner. Columbia's only previous championship in 1961 also was shared with Harvard. That Lions team was coached by Buff Donelli, a former Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Rams coach who scored for the Americans in soccer's 1934 World Cup. Columbia set a then Division I-AA record with 44 consecutive losses from 1983-88, a mark broken by Prairie View’s 80 in a row from 1989-98. Since 1971, the Lions’ only seasons with winning records until now were 1994, 1996, 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022. Al Bagnoli, who won nine Ivy titles in 23 years at Penn, couldn't manage one at Columbia from 2015-22. He quit six weeks before the 2023 opener, citing health, and was replaced on an interim basis by Mark Fabish, his offensive coordinator. Jon Poppe, now 39, was hired last December after working as a Bagnoli assistant at Columbia from 2015-17 between stints at Harvard from 2011-14 and 2017-22, plus one season as a head coach at Division III Union College. He led the Lions to a 7-3 record overall, their most wins in a coach's first season since George F. Sanford's team went 9-3 in 1899. Poppe had wife Anna and 7-year-old daughter with him in the locker room watching the countdown to the title. “Sixty-three years of whatever into now,” he said. “Just seeing a lot of that history myself, personally. This is a hugely — a feeling of elation, seeing my dad on the field, a lot of emotional things with that.” Before a crowd of 4,224, quarterback Caleb Sanchez's 1-yard touchdown run put Columbia ahead in the second quarter. Giorgi's 1-yard TD run opened a 14-3 lead in the third and Hugo Merry added a 25-yard field goal in the fourth, overcoming three field goals by Alan Zhao. Giorgi rushed for 165 yards and finished his career with 2,112, second in school history. He and Brown missed what would have been their freshman season in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Given Columbia's athletic history — the most successful sport is fencing — it is not an obvious football destination. “I saw the dedication, whether it resulted in wins or losses,” Brown said. “I saw their dedication to the product that they put out on the field and also the athletic department, the facilities that we had here, the busses on schedule and stuff, I was like, OK, they care about their athletes. People here want to win and it doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past, it matters what we’re going to do now.” Poppe cited a mindset. “You get 10 opportunities, unlike other sports, it is a grind to play this sport and prepare the way we do just for 10,” he said. As the final whistle sounded in Boston, Brown noted an unusual initial reaction in the locker room. “It was like kind of awe when they recovered the kick,” he said. “It was a lot quieter than you would think it would be, but you could feel the joy and the elation.” They accomplished what more than six decades of their predecessors had failed to. As the players headed out, Poppe had a final word. “Day off tomorrow,” he said. Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . Share Tweet Share Share Email In recent years, the global chip market has experienced explosive growth, driven by emerging technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. According to industry reports, the global chip market is expected to surpass $1.2 trillion by 2030. However, alongside this rapid expansion, cross-border chip transactions face significant challenges, including complex processes, high fees, and inefficiencies, which hinder industry growth. ChipChain Token (CCT) offers an innovative blockchain-based solution to address these pain points, providing a faster, more efficient, and cost-effective payment method for the global chip market. As technology advances and demand diversifies, chips have become a vital resource across multiple industries. However, traditional cross-border chip transactions still rely on cumbersome financial and logistical systems, leading to inefficiencies in payment processing. International remittances, involving multiple intermediaries, often take days or even weeks to settle. This delay severely impacts the agility of chip supply chains. Additionally, high foreign exchange fees and currency conversion costs further burden companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), limiting their ability to compete in the global market. Another critical issue is the lack of transparency in payment processes. In traditional systems, both parties often have limited visibility into the real-time status of funds, creating uncertainty and increasing transaction risks. For an industry like semiconductors, which heavily relies on supply chain reliability, this lack of transparency can lead to significant operational and financial setbacks. CCT addresses these challenges through its decentralized payment system and CCT tokens, offering agroundbreaking cross-border payment solution. By leveraging blockchain’s distributed ledger technology, CCT transforms the traditionally slow and opaque payment process into a fast, efficient, and transparent experience. Using CCT tokens, platform users can conduct near-instant cross-border payments, eliminating the need to wait for bank processing times. Automated through smart contracts, every transaction is fully transparent, and funds can be tracked in real-time, eliminating delays and human errors common in traditional payment methods. The CCT payment system supports seamless conversion between multiple fiat currencies and tokens, simplifying complex currency exchanges. Its built-in fee optimization algorithm identifies the lowest possible fees and fastest payment routes, significantly reducing the costs of cross-border transactions. With blockchain technology, CCT directly connects payers and recipients, eliminating reliance on intermediaries. This not only saves on middleman fees but also ensures that all transaction data is publicly transparent and recorded on-chain, greatly reducing information asymmetry. CCT’s cross-border payment solution is not only designed for large enterprises but also tailored to address the needs of SMEs, which often struggle with high costs and complex processes in global transactions. For many SMEs, the barriers of traditional cross-border payments restrict their ability to access international markets. CCT provides a low-cost, accessible tool with flexible fee adjustments, enabling these businesses to expand their operations without financial strain. Additionally, CCT’s smart contract capabilities support phased payment models, such as paying based on delivery progress. This dynamic settlement method eases financial pressure on buyers while protecting supplier interests, creating a mutually beneficial environment for both parties. As global demand for chips continues to grow, the internationalization of chip supply chains is accelerating. CCT’s cross-border payment solution not only enhances transaction efficiency but also integrates with the entire supply chain to provide greater transparency and collaboration. Through its supply chain tracking module, CCT ties every payment to the production, transportation, and delivery of chips, ensuring that financial flows align seamlessly with physical logistics. This comprehensive integration improves logistics efficiency and supports the globalization of the chip market. Market projections indicate that blockchain in supply chain management is expected to reach nearly $5 billion by 2028, and CCT is poised to play a significant role in this trend. As a critical component of chip trade, its cross-border payment solution will drive the global semiconductor market’s growth from billions to trillions of dollars. By simplifying payment processes, reducing costs, and increasing transparency, CCT enables businesses to complete transactions faster, accelerating market circulation and resource allocation efficiency. This industry-driven solution not only resolves existing challenges but also injects fresh momentum into the chip ecosystem’s sustainable development. ChipChain Token (CCT) is redefining payment processes in the chip industry and setting a new standard for global trade. Acting as a bridge between global chip suppliers and buyers, CCT’s efficient, secure, and transparent payment system is driving the internationalization of the semiconductor industry and fostering resource sharing. In the future, as CCT continues to optimize its technology and expand its market reach, its cross-border payment solution will extend beyond the chip industry, offering support for other sectors seeking globalization. CCT is leveraging innovative blockchain technology to transform the global semiconductor market, creating a future that is fairer, more efficient, and more sustainable for the entire industry.
