NEW YORK (AP) — The leaders of presidential campaign insist they simply didn’t have enough time to execute a winning strategy against , pointing to “ferocious” political headwinds that were ultimately too much to overcome in the 107-day period after . Harris’ leadership team, speaking on the “Pod Save America” podcast that aired on Tuesday, defended over the campaign’s closing days, some of which have faced scrutiny in the weeks since . Specifically, they defended Harris’ outreach to Republican voters, her from Biden, her silence on and her inability to schedule an interview with popular podcaster Joe Rogan. “In a 107-day race, it is very difficult to do all the things you would normally do in a year and a half, two years,” said Harris campaign senior adviser Jen O’Malley Dillon. David Plouffe, another senior adviser, added, “There was a price to be paid for the short campaign.” The pointed reflections on Harris’ loss came just before she was scheduled to host a conference call with supporters as the party begins a painful process of self-examination. Trump won every swing state and traditionally aligned with Democrats — young voters and voters of color, among them. Harris’ team did not question the legitimacy of Trump’s victory. “We lost,” O’Malley Dillon said. But none of the Harris’ advisers acknowledged any mistakes during the wide-ranging podcast interview hosted by former Democratic operatives. Instead, they indicated that Harris had few options given the compressed timeframe and the broad anti-incumbent headwinds that have challenged elected officials across the world. They also gave Trump’s team some credit. They specifically pointed to Trump’s closing attack ad, which highlighted Harris’ support for taxpayer-funded sex reassignment surgeries for transgender prisoners. “Obviously, it was a very effective ad at the end,” said Harris deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks. “I think that it made her seem out of touch.” The campaign tested several potential response ads but, in the end, decided it was best to avoid a specific rebuttal. “There’s no easy answers to this,” O’Malley Dillon said. Plouffe said he thought the Trump attack ad against “Bidenomics” was even more effective, but he acknowledged that the transgender attacks were not helpful. “She was on tape,” he said. “Surgery for trans people who want to transition in prison was part of the Biden-Harris platform in 2020. It was part of what the administration did, right?” And while the campaign has faced lingering questions about its media strategy, Harris’ team said she actually wanted to participate in a podcast with Rogan, who is among the world’s most popular podcasters and ultimately endorsed Trump. Stephanie Cutter, another Harris senior adviser, said the campaign wasn’t able to “find a date” to make it work. “We had discussions with Joe Rogan’s team. They were great. They wanted us to come on. We wanted to come on,” she said. “Will she do it sometime in the future? Maybe. Who knows. But it didn’t ultimately impact the outcome one way or the other.” Plouffe noted that the campaign offered to do the Rogan podcast on the road in Austin, Texas. with Rogan in the podcaster’s studio. Harris’ campaign brass also defended her decision to court moderate Republicans in the campaign’s closing days. The decision has drawn ire from some progressives, who believe Harris should have worked harder to turn out more traditional Democratic voters. “This political environment sucked, OK? We were dealing with ferocious headwinds,” Plouffe said. “So we had a complicated puzzle to put together here in terms of the voters.” He acknowledged some “drift” toward Trump among non-college-educated voters, particularly voters of color, which made Harris’ outreach to moderate voters even more important. “Yes, of course you have to maximize your turnout and your vote share amongst liberal voters if you’re a Democrat. That was a huge focus,” he said. He added, “You’ve got to couple that with dominating in the middle. Not just winning it a little. We have to dominate the moderate vote.” Steve Peoples, The Associated PressGen Bajwa advocated talks with TTP: Omar Ayub

The Great British Bake Off fans were left divided as Georgie Grasso was declared the 2024 champion, beating the series favourite to the title. After a suspense-filled series hosted by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, the final three bakers were Georgie, 34, Christiaan de Vries, 34, and Dylan Bachelet, aged 20. The finalists' first challenge in the tent involved crafting scones. They later had to impress the judges with an afternoon tea assortment. The last task required them to construct an intricate hanging celebration cake. With the tension escalating, Alison declared: "This is the bake between winning or losing," reports Wales Online . The finalists took on their last challenge on The Great British Bake Off (Image: Channel 4) As the pressure intensified, Christian, Georgie, and Dylan began to exhibit signs of anxiety under the scrutinising gaze of judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, along with hosts Alison and Noel. For fan favourite Dylan, who had been performing well in the competition, things took a turn for the worse as he grappled with the consistency of his genoise sponge in the final round. This led fans to speculate that Christian, who remained composed under pressure, could snatch the victory from him. Meanwhile, Georgie also encountered her own set of challenges during her final showstopper, as she seemed to forget what she was doing. Retreating to the back of the tent, Georgie pondered aloud: "What am I doing here? " What did I come over here for?" Georgie didn't think she could scoop the win (Image: Channel 4) Georgie, amidst her initial perplexity, emerged triumphant following three nail-biting rounds. For her concluding showstopper, Pru lauded Georgie's cake as "absolutely delicious," with both Pru and Paul in agreement about its extraordinary presentation. Yet, this verdict left some watchers befuddled who took to social media platform X to express their bewilderment. A viewer pondered: "How on earth has Georgie won?" An additional comment came in: "I'm happy for Georgie BUT Dylan is probably the best contestant this show has ever had. Such a weird result." Georgie was crowned the winner of the show (Image: Channel 4) However, several fans celebrated Georgie's triumph, one viewer praised: "Bravo Georgie, well done!" Another added: "Go Georgie... well deserved Welsh winner." The children's nurse from Carmarthenshire, said of her final contest, "the most challenging bake I've ever done". She admitted: "When I saw the brief, I thought, game over. "It took a lot of thought and planning to be able to make it work. I practised about three times. I wanted the judges to really see a piece of me in the bake, through my choice of colours and tastes. Undoubtedly, the most taxing part was the assembly combined with managing the time constraints." The mother of three opened up about the significant sacrifices required to stay in the contest, admitting: "Ive had to put the family on the back burner which has been really hard. I've had to tell the kids 'no' a lot." The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on Channel4.com.The military's tradition of tracking Santa Claus on his gravity-defying sweep across the globe will carry on this Christmas Eve, even if the U.S. government shuts down , officials said Friday. Each year, at least 100,000 kids call into the North American Aerospace Defense Command to inquire about Santa’s location. Millions more follow online . “We fully expect for Santa to take flight on Dec. 24 and NORAD will track him," the U.S.-Canadian agency said in a statement. On any other night, NORAD is scanning the heavens for potential threats , such as last year's Chinese spy balloon . But on Christmas Eve, volunteers in Colorado Springs, Colorado, are fielding questions like, “When is Santa coming to my house?” and, “Am I on the naughty or nice list?” The endeavor is supported by local and corporate sponsors, who also help shield the tradition from Washington dysfunction. Bob Sommers, 63, a civilian contractor and NORAD volunteer, told The Associated Press that there are "screams and giggles and laughter” when families call in, usually on speakerphone. Sommers often says on the call that everyone must be asleep before Santa arrives, prompting parents to say, "Do you hear what he said? We got to go to bed early." NORAD's annual tracking of Santa has endured since the Cold War , predating ugly sweater parties and Mariah Carey classics . Here's how it began and why the phones keep ringing. The origin story is Hollywood-esque It started with a child's accidental phone call in 1955. The Colorado Springs newspaper printed a Sears advertisement that encouraged children to call Santa, listing a phone number. A boy called. But he reached the Continental Air Defense Command, now NORAD, a joint U.S. and Canadian effort to spot potential enemy attacks. Tensions were growing with the Soviet Union, along with anxieties about nuclear war. Air Force Col. Harry W. Shoup picked up an emergency-only “red phone” and was greeted by a tiny voice that began to recite a Christmas wish list. “He went on a little bit, and he takes a breath, then says, ‘Hey, you’re not Santa,’” Shoup told The Associated Press in 1999. Realizing an explanation would be lost on the youngster, Shoup summoned a deep, jolly voice and replied, “Ho, ho, ho! Yes, I am Santa Claus. Have you been a good boy?” Shoup said he learned from the boy's mother that Sears mistakenly printed the top-secret number. He hung up, but the phone soon rang again with a young girl reciting her Christmas list. Fifty calls a day followed, he said. In the pre-digital age, the agency used a 60-by-80-foot (18-by-24-meter) plexiglass map of North America to track unidentified objects. A staff member jokingly drew Santa and his sleigh over the North Pole. The tradition was born. “Note to the kiddies,” began an AP story from Colorado Springs on Dec. 23, 1955. “Santa Claus Friday was assured safe passage into the United States by the Continental Air Defense Command.” In a likely reference to the Soviets, the article noted that Santa was guarded against possible attack from "those who do not believe in Christmas.” Is the origin story humbug? Some grinchy journalists have nitpicked Shoup's story, questioning whether a misprint or a misdial prompted the boy's call. In 2014, tech news site Gizmodo cited an International News Service story from Dec. 1, 1955, about a child's call to Shoup. Published in the Pasadena Independent, the article said the child reversed two digits in the Sears number. "When a childish voice asked COC commander Col. Harry Shoup, if there was a Santa Claus at the North Pole, he answered much more roughly than he should — considering the season: ‘There may be a guy called Santa Claus at the North Pole, but he’s not the one I worry about coming from that direction,'" Shoup said in the brief piece. In 2015, The Atlantic magazine doubted the flood of calls to the secret line, while noting that Shoup had a flair for public relations. Phone calls aside, Shoup was indeed media savvy. In 1986, he told the Scripps Howard News Service that he recognized an opportunity when a staff member drew Santa on the glass map in 1955. A lieutenant colonel promised to have it erased. But Shoup said, “You leave it right there,” and summoned public affairs. Shoup wanted to boost morale for the troops and public alike. “Why, it made the military look good — like we’re not all a bunch of snobs who don’t care about Santa Claus,” he said. Shoup died in 2009. His children told the StoryCorps podcast in 2014 that it was a misprinted Sears ad that prompted the phone calls. “And later in life he got letters from all over the world,” said Terri Van Keuren, a daughter. "People saying ‘Thank you, Colonel, for having, you know, this sense of humor.’” A rare addition to Santa's story NORAD's tradition is one of the few modern additions to the centuries-old Santa story that have endured, according to Gerry Bowler, a Canadian historian who spoke to the AP in 2010. Ad campaigns or movies try to “kidnap” Santa for commercial purposes, said Bowler, who wrote “Santa Claus: A Biography.” NORAD, by contrast, takes an essential element of Santa's story and views it through a technological lens. In a recent interview with the AP, Air Force Lt. Gen. Case Cunningham explained that NORAD radars in Alaska and Canada — known as the northern warning system — are the first to detect Santa. He leaves the North Pole and typically heads for the international dateline in the Pacific Ocean. From there he moves west, following the night. “That's when the satellite systems we use to track and identify targets of interest every single day start to kick in,” Cunningham said. “A probably little-known fact is that Rudolph’s nose that glows red emanates a lot of heat. And so those satellites track (Santa) through that heat source.” NORAD has an app and website, www.noradsanta.org , that will track Santa on Christmas Eve from 4 a.m. to midnight, mountain standard time. People can call 1-877-HI-NORAD to ask live operators about Santa’s location from 6 a.m. to midnight, mountain time.

As the dust settles on a transformative year in B2B, 2024’s advancements hint at a future where B2B payments become more seamless, intelligent and integrated. Digital innovation rewrote the rules of enterprise-level commerce this year, as businesses embraced technology to streamline workflows, enhance security and adapt to evolving customer expectations. Among the key trends that reshaped B2B buyer and supplier dynamics this year were the rise of digital marketplaces , the embrace of automation and artificial intelligence across accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) workflows, real-time payments, and the surging use of virtual cards . As these trends converge, the marketplace emphasis on digitization and the mitigation of paper-based payment methods, security and seamless user experiences is likely to intensify. Businesses will likely continue to prioritize B2B innovations that not only simplify operations but also enhance trust and collaboration between buyers and suppliers. Read also: Mid-Market Companies Rewrote Rules of Working Capital in 2024 The Future Is Now: Decoding 2024’s Top B2B Payments Trends Digital marketplaces are no longer the fringe players they once were. Platforms like Alibaba and Amazon Business have demonstrated the power of streamlining procurement and payment processes for enterprises. PYMNTS tracks the rise of digital B2B marketplaces across various industries , even including the U.S. government , noting that these platforms encompass a broad swath of B2B innovation , from embedded payments to AI-powered procurement and the broader digitization of traditionally manual B2B processes. These marketplaces streamline procurement processes, offering transparency, enhanced supplier discovery and robust analytics. The ability to integrate payment solutions directly into these ecosystems has further helped eliminate friction, facilitate faster transactions and improve cash flow visibility. Additionally, marketplaces can serve as a springboard for cross-border trade by addressing complexities such as compliance and currency conversion. What does this mean for B2B payments? First, the lines between procurement and payments are blurring. Enterprises demand seamless, end-to-end solutions that combine purchasing, financing and payment reconciliation in a single interface. Second, the rise of marketplaces is accelerating the need for interoperability between payment systems. See also: Into the Nitty-Gritty: How, Why and Where Automation Optimizes B2B Payments Automation and AI: Transforming AP/AR Workflows While the PYMNTS Intelligence report “ Getting Paid: Digital Payments for Improving Cash Flow and Customer Experience ” found that 75% of companies still use paper checks, the days when AP and AR teams were bogged down by manual processes and paper invoices are increasingly receding into the past. Automation and AI are revolutionizing these workflows, helping deliver efficiency and accuracy. Machine learning algorithms can analyze payment histories to forecast cash flow and identify potential bottlenecks , while AI-powered tools can work to scan, categorize and process invoices in seconds, reducing human error and speeding up payment cycles. These advancements not only streamline back-office operations but also free up resources for strategic initiatives. The PYMNTS Intelligence report “ Why Automating Both AR and AP Is Vital to Fiscal Fitness ” found that as companies seek to improve their financial health, automating AP and AR is becoming a key strategy. Automation, for its part, works to streamline accounting, strengthen security and improve B2B relationships through improved visibility and efficiency. Read also: Cutting the Checks: Boosting Commercial Payment Speed and Security With Virtual Cards Emerging B2B Payment Mechanisms: Efficiency Meets Security and Visibility One of the biggest stories of 2024 was the growth in the use of virtual cards for B2B payments. Unlike traditional payment methods, virtual cards offer a combination of efficiency, security and control. The rise of virtual cards is also helping to drive innovation in payment analytics. Businesses can use the granular data provided by virtual card transactions to optimize spend management and identify cost-saving opportunities. At the same time, real-time payments are increasingly reshaping the expectations of speed and transparency in B2B payments. As real-time payments become more widespread, companies will need to retool their treasury systems to handle the increased velocity of transactions. Integrating real-time payment capabilities into existing workflows will be a key challenge — and opportunity — for payment providers. Still, as we look to 2025, key industries remain tethered to legacy B2B payments. The PYMNTS Intelligence report “ The Great Paper Escape: Transforming Accounts Payable for the Digital Age ” found that the construction industry leads in paper-check use, with 76% of subcontractors paid this way. Real estate (21%) and retail (15%) also maintain reliance on paper checks for B2B payments . In other words, even as digital payment options multiply, sizable segments of the economy still have their B2B payments firmly anchored in the last century’s payment methods. The question is not whether they will modernize but whether they will remain competitive when they eventually must do so. Lulu Candles is a US-based small business that specializes in scented candles and perfumes. Promising review : "This is such a great candle that fills the room quickly with a really nice strong smell that is soothing and relaxing. I was looking for a less expensive Le Labo Santal 33 scent candle and this one is very very close! It's a bit stronger, but I love it! The shipment arrived fast, and I just love how fast it fills up the room without being lit for so long!" — Cristina Bertolotto Get it from Amazon for $19.95+ (available in three sizes, in gift box options, in packs of two, and in a variety of scents). 18. A set of butterluxe faux matte leather leggings you'll want to stock up on for fall and winter. Not only are these high-waisted, ultra comfortable, and elevated, but they're wayyyy more affordable than other competing leggings with the same look. Promising review: "They look like leather. These yoga pants look great on. They have a sheen that makes them look leather-like, but they are very stretchy and comfortable, like a second skin. I've washed them (hand wash/gentle cycle) and they still look great. I highly recommend." — listenhere Get it from Amazon for $32 (available in women's sizes XXS–XL and 11 colors). 19. Eos' Shea Butter Vanilla Cashmere body lotion , which TikTok is going *feral* over both because of the lightweight, long-lasting moisture, and the soothing, delicious smell that reviewers compare to more expensive brands like Philosophy and Bath & Body Works. Promising review: "Heaven sent for your skin; heavenly scent to enjoy. This feels absolutely amazing going on. Gets absorbed quickly, for a lotion rich with oil. Doesn't leave a greasy feeling, as long as you give it a minute or two to fully absorb. The scent is, for me anyway, like aromatherapy. It smells like an iced sugar cookie, and is a great base layer for fragrance. Very relaxing. " — Dragonheart Jo Get it from Amazon for $8.98 . 20. A tin of literal pure honeycomb so you can live your best Pooh Bear life and either eat it raw, steep it in tea, or crooonch it over jam and toast. Reviewers love to get adventurous with it and pair it with all kinds of meat, cheese, and fruit dishes! Bushwick Kitchen is a small business that specializes in honey and hot sauce products. Promising review : "Had to buy as we’ve been wanting to try honeycomb and this was absolutely delightful. So light and decadent with just the right sweetness. One of the best desserts we’ve had. Enjoyed with tea, blistered shishito peppers and dates appetizer, and even on its own . Chew the waxy comb like gum for added enjoyment." — DaneMama Get it from Amazon for $14.99 (also available as a pourable honey). 21. A pair of wireless sleep headphones to play white noise or the music of your choice as cozily! as! possible!! without your ears getting sore. This is also an excellent option for side sleepers 👀. Promising review : "These are great! I've struggled with insomnia for the past couple of years. I wish I'd found these sooner. They are extremely comfortable. When I fall asleep, I rarely sleep for more than an hour straight. These allow me to comfortably play a podcast or meditation to get myself back to sleep . I'm only two nights in on using these, and I know I don't want to be without them. Battery life is great. I probably played them for a total of five hours during the night and woke up with them still having 70% battery remaining. I probably won't use these for a workout because I don't have to wash them all the time, but for insomnia or anyone who just likes to fall asleep listening to something, these are amazing. " — Jesse Brown Get it from Amazon for $15.99 (available in 27 colors). 22. A gorgeous gooseneck electric tea kettle with all of the aesthetic of the Fellow version, minus the $195 price tag. I love perfumes, and I’m super picky. I either love or return. This scent is gorgeous. Smells a bit sweet but not overly sweet, not super vanilla, just a hint of it with sophistication. Very soft and sultry. I applied moisturizer (thin, thin layer of Vaseline) and then sprayed perfume. It stayed on my skin for probably over eight hours. I checked my sweater the next day you could easily smell it on my sweater. Definitely worth the money." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $29+ (available in two sizes). 25. A bottle of truffle seasoning for an instant upgrade on homemade meals that honestly has become one of my only personality traits, to the point where I'm just like, begging you to try it. I should gatekeep this stuff so I can have it all to myself but it is such a delicious and satisfying and ridiculously affordable alternative to real truffles that I'm throwing the gates WIDE OPEN. *wheezes in truffle* Okay, I bought this on a whim because there's a sushi place down the street from me that makes truffle avocado sushi rolls, and I was like, I need these in my life, but I also need money to live. I decided to DIY it with a regular $4 avocado roll, and this seasoning and the umami bliss of it all basically exploded my brain. Since then, I've tried it on eggs, burritos, potatoes, chocolate mug cakes, and pretty much every sweet and savory thing I can think of. The best part is you really get an excellent bang for your buck — it's so flavorful that I've been using this for months now and have barely made a dent in the container! Get it from Amazon for $13.15 . 27. E.l.f.'s new sheer tint, hyaluronic acid-infused moisturizing "Squeeze Me" lip balm that not only hydrates the heck out of chapped lips, but comes in flavors like Vanilla Frosting, Honeydew, and Peach. It is 2024, and we deserve an affordable way to perpetually taste like birthday cake!! I love love love this lip balm. I compare it to the $24 version from Summer Fridays, which I've been splurging on — I love that brand because it lasts so long and is so high quality, but this $4 E.l.f. version feels comparable and, more excitingly, comes in smaller versions so I can stock my totes and bathroom with them whether I'm at home or on the go. It's hydrating, lightweight, doesn't get sticky, and adds a perfect ~subtle~ gloss whether I'm using it alone or on top of lip color. I love the vanilla flavor so much, it's got a similar vibe to the birthday cake flavor that Glossier sometimes carries. Promising review: "I have one in my car, one in my purse, and one at home. These just feel so good on your lips! The flavors are very true to their name. They are pretty small though, so if you use it often it won’t last long (which is another reason I have three of them), but for $4 each it is worth it. I sometimes like using this before putting on the E.l.f. Lip Reviver Oil . Such a great base to an awesome lip oil!" — Jax Get it from Amazon for $4 (available in five flavors). 28. However, I’m pleased to report that it has held up beautifully so far. The jar is lightweight and shows no signs of cracking, which is a relief. HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire - 22 December 2024 - On December 20th, Fushi Technology is set to launch its AI Agent industry vertical applications in the Southeast Asia region to help businesses improve efficiency and optimize operations. Fushi Technology is an investment of Hong Kong-listed company Yeahka Limited (9923.HK). In 2024, Fushi already expanded its client base in Southeast Asia, including over 200 global and regional brands such as Starbucks, MUJI, Pizza Hut, New Balance, Levi's, KOI, and Mr. Coconut, covering markets in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia, with over 20,000 stores in total. Fushi's achievements can be attributed to two key drivers: The first driver is the synergies created by its partnership with Yeahka. Leveraging the payment technology, service expertise, and applied artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that are already validated in China, Fushi provides more attractive business empowerment solutions for merchants across the Asia-Pacific region. The second key driver is that Fushi itself places great importance on the localization of its SaaS product development and operations functionalities. By continually harnessing the market attributes and customer preferences in different vertical industries overseas, Fushi has enriched its in-house product portfolio and greatly improved service efficiency, enhancing the breadth and depth of its business empowerment capabilities for clients, while also increasing customer retention. The launch of Fushi's AI Agent industry vertical application is also driven by the needs of those overseas clients outside of China. Currently, Fushi's AI Agent primarily targets the food and beverage industry. Customers can use conversational natural language, either through voice or text, on the brand's official app or website to inquire about various information related to restaurants and food, as well as place orders and make payments. This will significantly enhance the customer experience and improve order conversion rates. In the future, Fushi will also collaborate with Ascentis, a leading CRM company in Singapore that Fushi recently acquired, to develop a marketing AI agent, allowing businesses to automatically plan and execute marketing campaigns and manage customer relationships through natural language. AI Agents are intelligent entities based on large language models (LLMs) that can autonomously understand, plan, make decisions, and perform complex tasks. Unlike traditional large models, AI Agents not only tell you "how to do" something, but also help you "do it." According to Deloitte, AI Agents are reshaping industries in unprecedented ways. They not only expand the application scope of generative AI but also enhance AI capabilities through multi-agent AI systems. For example, after launching the AI-driven AXON2.0 advertising marketing engine, Applovin saw an increase in advertising monetization rates, with third-quarter revenue rising by 39% year-on-year and net profit growing by 300% year-on-year. As of December 20th, Applovin's stock price has increased by over 700% this year. With AI Agents reshaping traditional industries and technologies, more industry disruptors are expected to emerge. Jared, a partner at Y Combinator and a senior investor, recently analyzed the market, predicting that vertical AI Agents could become a new market that is 10 times larger than SaaS, potentially creating technology giants with market values exceeding $300 billion each. With China's expansion into overseas markets, Fushi is poised to seize new market opportunities, thanks to its long-standing experience in serving merchants in combination with the addition of proprietary AI Agents.
