Feels good getting these consecutive days training in the bank man.... Wrist re construction and back out here... blessed..................Without failing any drug tests 🙂‍↕️🙏🏽 be proud kygs doing it the right way 😩😂 — Nicholas Kyrgios (@NickKyrgios) Kyrgios has been particularly vociferous in his criticism of Sinner, who could yet face a ban after the World Anti-Doping Agency appealed the finding of no fault or negligence in his case. At a press conference ahead of the Brisbane International, Kyrgios told reporters: “I have to be outspoken about it because I don’t think there’s enough people that are speaking about it. I think people are trying to sweep it under the rug. “I just think that it’s been handled horrifically in our sport. Two world number ones both getting done for doping is disgusting for our sport. It’s a horrible look. “The tennis integrity right now – and everyone knows it, but no one wants to speak about it – it’s awful. It’s actually awful. And it’s not OK.” Kyrgios initially underwent knee surgery in January 2023, returning to action in June of that year, but he played only one match before pulling out of Wimbledon due to a torn ligament in his right wrist. He has not played a competitive match since, and it appeared doubtful that he would be able to return, but the 29-year-old will make his comeback in Brisbane this week. Kyrgios will take on France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in singles, while he will also team up with Novak Djokovic in a blockbuster doubles pairing. “It’s good to be back,” said Kyrgios. “I honestly never thought I’d be back playing at this level. Even entering an event like this, preparing, doing all the right things. “I’m really excited to just go out there and play, just play tennis. I saw Novak in the gym, playing doubles with him, a lot to be excited about that I’m able to get out there and compete again.” Asked whether he could get back to the same level that saw him reach the Wimbledon final in 2022, Kyrgios said: “I still believe I can, whether or not that’s factual or not. There was another player who was like, ‘You have to be realistic’. That’s not how I am. I always back my ability.” The new tennis season is already under way, with the United Cup team event beginning on Friday. Great Britain, who are weakened by the absence of Jack Draper through injury, begin their campaign against Argentina in Sydney on Monday before facing hosts Australia on Wednesday. That could pit Katie Boulter against fiance Alex De Minaur, with the pair having announced their engagement last week. “Obviously some incredible news from our side, but I think we kind of wanted it to die down a little bit before matches started,” said Boulter of the timing. “My private life is out in the public a little bit at the moment. But, in terms of the stuff that I’m doing on the court, I’ll be doing the best I can every single day to stay in my own little bubble.” Billy Harris has taken Draper’s place, with the British number one facing a race against time to be fit for the Australian Open because of a hip problem. Emma Raducanu is the sixth seed at the ASB Classic in Auckland and will begin her season with a match against Robin Montgomery, while Cameron Norrie takes on another American, Learner Tien, at the Hong Kong Open.

Celtic captain Callum McGregor issued a warning from recent history over the dangers of getting carried away by their healthy lead in the title race. The William Hill Premiership leaders moved seven points clear of Aberdeen with a game in hand of their nearest rivals following a 1-0 win at Pittodrie on Wednesday night. Rangers are a further four points adrift but a 6-0 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox, on top of their 4-1 victory in Nice last week, suggests Philippe Clement’s side are starting to hit some form. McGregor is refusing to take notice of the table, pointing to last season as evidence of how quickly things can change. Brendan Rodgers’ side were seven points ahead of Rangers after seven matches but the Light Blues went top in February after Celtic drew at home to Kilmarnock. The Hoops were five points behind and a goal down at Motherwell at one stage but ended up winning the title by eight points. When asked about the league table, the midfielder said: “I think we were seven or eight points clear last year and then ended up seven behind. That shows you how quickly football can change and you have to learn from that experience as well. “We understand it’s a good start, of course it is, but the reason why it’s been a good start is because of the way we’re approaching the game, the way that we’re training, the relentless nature of the coaches and the players. “Everybody, every day, is giving their absolute all and I think the squad, you can see that when boys come into the team, there’s a hunger to do well and everything’s in a good place. “The only bit that we can control is that and then when we go to the pitch on a Saturday or a Wednesday, whatever day we’re playing, then we try to get the maximum out of that match that we possibly can. “We’ve ended up in a good position, but we’re not even halfway through yet, so we know there’s so much football to be played.” Celtic have now gone 29 domestic matches unbeaten but McGregor knows that record is down to keeping their standards high and making sure any sign of complacency is stamped down on. He said: “I’ll be backed up by a lot of senior players, a lot of good senior pros – our building’s full of them. The staff are unbelievable, they work tirelessly. “The work they put in every single day, the players respect that and the coaches respect the players. “It’s a brilliant place to work and if anybody’s having any days like that, then it’s very quickly nailed. We move on and we try to work in the right way.” Reo Hatate’s expertly-taken goal was enough to give Celtic victory in conditions that were among the worst McGregor had played in – wind speeds approached 50 miles per hour at a wet Pittodrie. “To be fair, the defenders read it really well and covered each other and always expected the worst,” he said. “Overall, I think it was a really impressive win in terms of the conditions and the way we played and the way we controlled the game. “Probably with the weather and the wind, that last wee bit was just missing in the first half. “It’s difficult but the players handled it really well. I thought we showed a really good level technically and tactically in the game.” This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.In response to these discussions, Jokic himself has expressed his admiration for his teammates and emphasized the importance of teamwork and sacrifice in achieving success on the court. FBI director says he intends to resign at end of Joe Biden’s termFORT WORTH, Texas — David Seymour’s job over the next couple of weeks is to make sure that American Airlines flights take off on time and fly safely during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Seymour is American’s chief operating officer, which means he oversees flight and airport operations for a carrier that figures to make about 6,500 flights a day between now and New Year’s Day. A West Point graduate and former U.S. Army infantry officer, Seymour joined America West Airlines in 1999. America West became US Airways, then merged with American in 2013. Seymour has held a variety of operations-related jobs and was promoted to his current post in 2020. Seymour spoke with The Associated Press recently about managing huge passenger numbers during the holidays and preventing people from getting on a plane before their boarding group is called. The answers have been edited for length and clarity. Q. How are you going to make sure American flights run on time during the holidays? A: There are many thousands of people running the airline every day. My job, honestly, over this period isn’t so much about managing the chaos, it’s managing really all the challenges, and we’ll call it the headwinds that come our way. And I would say the vast majority of those are the uncontrollable. Q. Such as? A: What’s going on the (air-traffic control) system around us. If there weren’t weather that we have to deal with and other complications that sometimes arise, running an airline would be pretty easy. Q. How will you recover from disruptions? A: Before the pandemic, we would have a big storm in the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) area or the Charlotte (North Carolina) area, and it would take us a couple of days (to recover). We set about coming through the pandemic and coming out that we are going to recover better than any carrier out there. Q. And how will you do that? A: By anticipating the weather. My team looks out constantly at what the weather is, looking at multiple weather forecasts to understand what’s coming, what could it do, and how are we prepared for that. Q. How much do you learn from big cancellation events? And how much do you learn from meltdowns at other airlines? A: The team here, they do an after-action review. We will look at it and say, ‘What could we have done better?’ And we archive that information. Now, to your other question about competitors. I’m not inside the other competitors’ operations centers and looking at how they do that. Their networks are set up differently than ours. We do ask ourselves, ‘OK, if something similar were to happen to us, what would we do?’ Q. With Christmas travel, what what are the big things you’re looking for? Is it weather? Air-traffic control problems? A: Weather is always a tough thing to predict. That’s really going to be one of the largest things because it has the potential for having the most impact. Controller-wise, we stay in touch with (the Federal Aviation Administration). We have a team out here that is in constant communication with the FAA, looking at what’s happening in the system, and we’re building contingency plans if they think there are going to be some challenges. Q. You need to deice planes. A: The only difference between summer and now is we have to deal with winter weather in some locations. So, deicing. But we’re ready for that. The technology we have right now with the deicing vehicles ... we’ve been able to reduce our throughput time on deicing by half and still meeting all the requirements that we need to in terms of adequately deicing the aircraft, but having one person do it. Q. Are the delays in deliveries of new planes from Boeing affecting your holiday season planning? A: No. Boeing needs to be successful, they need to be able to deliver quality aircraft, but we haven’t built our schedule for the holiday period that is dependent on getting any deliveries. We have enough buffer built in. Q. American recently expanded the rollout of technology to catch people who try to board the plane before their boarding group is called. What went into that decision? A: Our frequent and premium travelers look at (the technology to catch line-jumpers) as a benefit of being loyal to American Airlines. It’s a huge plus for our gate agents because they do like order. Q. Were people boarding out of order slowing down the boarding process? A: No. We just want a steady stream (of passengers) going in. The ability to get overhead bin space ... has gotten a lot better with some of the upgrades that we’ve done with larger overhead bins on the vast majority of our aircraft. We’re going to finish up the rest of the fleet in the next couple years with the large overhead bins. So that won’t be the issue, but that used to be a bit of that driver there.

'Gladiator II' cast discusses bigger battles, higher stakes in new sequel

A museum curator hiked into a forest in Poland with a metal detector to search for some artifacts from the World Wars. Instead, he stumbled upon a 3,000-year-old weapon. Krzysztof Mindur planned to explore the forest in Zarszyn in hopes of finding items from World War I or II to add to his museum, the Museum of Military and Technology in Wola Sękowa, he told McClatchy News on Dec. 5. He founded the museum to combine his work as a professional soldier and his passion for researching military history. Mindur and other history enthusiasts tracked down a former battlefield in the Zarszyn forest after talking to those who remembered the fighting. Equipped with metal detectors, the group set out to search the area for the first time in late October. To his surprise, Mindur unearthed four fragments of a sword from the Bronze Age , he wrote in a post on his museum’s Facebook account. Photos show the ancient blue-green sword. The weapon dated back over 3,000 years and was a unique, priceless find, the Subcarpathian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments in Przemyśl said in a Dec. 3 Facebook post. The ancient sword measured about 15 inches in length, but its point was missing. Its handle had a geometric design carved into it, photos show. The 3,000-year-old sword was sent to the Historical Museum in Sanok for further analysis, TVP3, a Polish news outlet, reported. The museum’s curator, Piotr Kotowicz, identified it as a raga type sword, a style typically found in Slovakia or Hungary, and a first-of-its-kind find for Poland. Officials with the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Krosno described the ancient sword as extraordinary in a Facebook post. What are we learning about the past? Here are three of our most recent eye-catching archaeology stories. → Anglers spot something poking out of seafloor — leading to rare ancient find in Italy → Hiker finds strange item at melting glacier in Switzerland — and it stumps officials → 'Phantom' coins — believed to be destroyed after WWII — found in warehouse in Japan Mindur said he never dreamed of finding such a historically valuable artifact. He plans to continue searching former WWII battlefields next year. (AP) — Known across the globe as the stuck astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams hit the six-month mark in space Thursday with two more to go. The pair rocketed into orbit on June 5, the first to ride Boeing’s new Starliner crew capsule on what was supposed to be a weeklong test flight. They arrived at the International Space Station the next day, only after overcoming a cascade of thruster failures and helium leaks . NASA deemed the capsule too risky for a return flight, so it will be February before their long and trying mission comes to a close. While NASA managers bristle at calling them stuck or stranded, the two retired Navy captains shrug off the description of their plight. They insist they’re fine and accepting of their fate. Wilmore views it as a detour of sorts: “We’re just on a different path.” “I like everything about being up here,” Williams told students Wednesday from an elementary school named for her in Needham, Massachusetts, her hometown. "Just living in space is super fun.” Both astronauts have lived up there before so they quickly became full-fledged members of the crew, helping with science experiments and chores like fixing a broken toilet, vacuuming the air vents and watering the plants. Williams took over as station commander in September. “Mindset does go a long way,” Wilmore said in response to a question from Nashville first-graders in October. He’s from Mount Juliet, Tennessee. “I don’t look at these situations in life as being downers.” Boeing flew its Starliner capsule home empty in September, and NASA moved Wilmore and Williams to a SpaceX flight not due back until late February. Two other astronauts were bumped to make room and to keep to a six-month schedule for crew rotations. Like other station crews, Wilmore and Williams trained for spacewalks and any unexpected situations that might arise. “When the crews go up, they know they could be there for up to a year,” said NASA Associate Administrator Jim Free. NASA astronaut Frank Rubio found that out the hard way when the Russian Space Agency had to rush up a replacement capsule for him and two cosmonauts in 2023, pushing their six-month mission to just past a year. Boeing said this week that input from Wilmore and Williams has been “invaluable" in the ongoing inquiry of what went wrong. The company said in a statement that it is preparing for Starliner's next flight but declined comment on when it might launch again. NASA also has high praise for the pair. “Whether it was luck or whether it was selection, they were great folks to have for this mission,” NASA's chief health and medical officer, Dr. JD Polk, said during an interview with The Associated Press. On top of everything else, Williams, 59, has had to deal with “rumors,” as she calls them, of serious weight loss. She insists her weight is the same as it was on launch day, which Polk confirms. During Wednesday's student chat, Williams said she didn't have much of an appetite when she first arrived in space. But now she's “super hungry” and eating three meals a day plus snacks, while logging the required two hours of daily exercise. Williams, a distance runner, uses the space station treadmill to support races in her home state. She competed in Cape Cod’s 7-mile Falmouth Road Race in August. She ran the 2007 Boston Marathon up there as well. She has a New England Patriots shirt with her for game days, as well as a Red Sox spring training shirt. “Hopefully I’ll be home before that happens -- but you never know,” she said in November. Husband Michael Williams, a retired federal marshal and former Navy aviator, is caring for their dogs back home in Houston. As for Wilmore, 61, he's missing his younger daughter's senior year in high school and his older daughter's theater productions in college. “We can’t deny that being unexpectedly separated, especially during the holidays when the entire family gets together, brings increased yearnings to share the time and events together,” his wife, Deanna Wilmore, told the AP in a text this week. Her husband “has it worse than us” since he's confined to the space station and can only connect via video for short periods. “We are certainly looking forward to February!!” she wrote.
